Hosea 12
NKJV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionEnglish Standard Version
“Ephraim feeds on the wind, And pursues the east wind; He daily increases lies and desolation. Also they make a covenant with the Assyrians, And oil is carried to Egypt.1Ephraim feeds on the wind and pursues the east wind all day long; they multiply falsehood and violence; they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried to Egypt.
“The LORD also brings a charge against Judah, And will punish Jacob according to his ways; According to his deeds He will recompense him.2The LORD has an indictment against Judah and will punish Jacob according to his ways; he will repay him according to his deeds.
He took his brother by the heel in the womb, And in his strength he struggled with God.3In the womb he took his brother by the heel, and in his manhood he strove with God.
Yes, he struggled with the Angel and prevailed; He wept, and sought favor from Him. He found Him in Bethel, And there He spoke to us—4He strove with the angel and prevailed; he wept and sought his favor. He met God at Bethel, and there God spoke with us—
That is, the LORD God of hosts. The LORD is His memorable name.5the LORD, the God of hosts, the LORD is his memorial name:
So you, by the help of your God, return; Observe mercy and justice, And wait on your God continually.6“So you, by the help of your God, return, hold fast to love and justice, and wait continually for your God.”
“A cunning Canaanite! Deceitful scales are in his hand; He loves to oppress.7A merchant, in whose hands are false balances, he loves to oppress.
And Ephraim said, ‘Surely I have become rich, I have found wealth for myself; In all my labors They shall find in me no iniquity that is sin.’8Ephraim has said, “Ah, but I am rich; I have found wealth for myself; in all my labors they cannot find in me iniquity or sin.”
“But I am the LORD your God, Ever since the land of Egypt; I will again make you dwell in tents, As in the days of the appointed feast.9I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt; I will again make you dwell in tents, as in the days of the appointed feast.
I have also spoken by the prophets, And have multiplied visions; I have given symbols through the witness of the prophets.”10I spoke to the prophets; it was I who multiplied visions, and through the prophets gave parables.
Though Gilead has idols— Surely they are vanity— Though they sacrifice bulls in Gilgal, Indeed their altars shall be heaps in the furrows of the field.11If there is iniquity in Gilead, they shall surely come to nothing: in Gilgal they sacrifice bulls; their altars also are like stone heaps on the furrows of the field.
Jacob fled to the country of Syria; Israel served for a spouse, And for a wife he tended sheep.12Jacob fled to the land of Aram; there Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he guarded sheep.
By a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, And by a prophet he was preserved.13By a prophet the LORD brought Israel up from Egypt, and by a prophet he was guarded.
Ephraim provoked Him to anger most bitterly; Therefore his Lord will leave the guilt of his bloodshed upon him, And return his reproach upon him.14Ephraim has given bitter provocation; so his Lord will leave his bloodguilt on him and will repay him for his disgraceful deeds.
