Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, | 1The LORD spoke to Moses: " |
“Speak to Aaron and his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel, and that they do not profane My holy name by what they dedicate to Me: I am the LORD. | 2Tell Aaron and his sons to deal respectfully with the holy offerings of the Israelites that they have consecrated to Me, so they do not profane My holy name; I am Yahweh. |
Say to them: ‘Whoever of all your descendants throughout your generations, who goes near the holy things which the children of Israel dedicate to the LORD, while he has uncleanness upon him, that person shall be cut off from My presence: I am the LORD. | 3Say to them: If any man from any of your descendants throughout your generations is in a state of uncleanness yet approaches the holy offerings that the Israelites consecrate to the LORD, that person will be cut off from My presence; I am Yahweh. |
‘Whatever man of the descendants of Aaron, who is a leper or has a discharge, shall not eat the holy offerings until he is clean. And whoever touches anything made unclean by a corpse, or a man who has had an emission of semen, | 4No man of Aaron's descendants who has a skin disease or a discharge is to eat from the holy offerings until he is clean. Whoever touches anything made unclean by a dead person or by a man who has an emission of semen, |
or whoever touches any creeping thing by which he would be made unclean, or any person by whom he would become unclean, whatever his uncleanness may be— | 5or whoever touches any swarming creature that makes him unclean or any person who makes him unclean--whatever his uncleanness-- |
the person who has touched any such thing shall be unclean until evening, and shall not eat the holy offerings unless he washes his body with water. | 6the man who touches any of these will remain unclean until evening and is not to eat from the holy offerings unless he has bathed his body with water. |
And when the sun goes down he shall be clean; and afterward he may eat the holy offerings, because it is his food. | 7When the sun has set, he will become clean, and then he may eat from the holy offerings, for that is his food. |
Whatever dies naturally or is torn by beasts he shall not eat, to defile himself with it: I am the LORD. | 8He must not eat an animal that died naturally or was mauled by wild beasts, making himself unclean by it; I am Yahweh. |
‘They shall therefore keep My ordinance, lest they bear sin for it and die thereby, if they profane it: I the LORD sanctify them. | 9They must keep My instruction, or they will be guilty and die because they profane it; I am Yahweh who sets them apart." |
‘No outsider shall eat the holy offering; one who dwells with the priest, or a hired servant, shall not eat the holy thing. | 10No one outside a priest's family is to eat the holy offering. A foreigner staying with a priest or a hired hand is not to eat the holy offering. |
But if the priest buys a person with his money, he may eat it; and one who is born in his house may eat his food. | 11But if a priest purchases someone with his money, that person may eat it, and those born in his house may eat his food. |
If the priest’s daughter is married to an outsider, she may not eat of the holy offerings. | 12If the priest's daughter is married to a man outside a priest's family, she is not to eat from the holy contributions. |
But if the priest’s daughter is a widow or divorced, and has no child, and has returned to her father’s house as in her youth, she may eat her father’s food; but no outsider shall eat it. | 13But if the priest's daughter becomes widowed or divorced, has no children, and returns to her father's house as in her youth, she may share her father's food. But no outsider may share it. |
‘And if a man eats the holy offering unintentionally, then he shall restore a holy offering to the priest, and add one-fifth to it. | 14If anyone eats a holy offering in error, he must add a fifth to its value and give the holy offering to the priest. |
They shall not profane the holy offerings of the children of Israel, which they offer to the LORD, | 15The priests must not profane the holy offerings the Israelites give to the LORD |
or allow them to bear the guilt of trespass when they eat their holy offerings; for I the LORD sanctify them.’ ” | 16by letting the people eat their holy offerings and having them bear the penalty of restitution. For I am Yahweh who sets them apart." |
And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, | 17The LORD spoke to Moses: " |
“Speak to Aaron and his sons, and to all the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘Whatever man of the house of Israel, or of the strangers in Israel, who offers his sacrifice for any of his vows or for any of his freewill offerings, which they offer to the LORD as a burnt offering— | 18Speak to Aaron, his sons, and all the Israelites and tell them: Any man of the house of Israel or of the foreign residents in Israel who presents his offering--whether they present freewill gifts or payment of vows to the LORD as burnt offerings-- |
you shall offer of your own free will a male without blemish from the cattle, from the sheep, or from the goats. | 19must offer an unblemished male from the cattle, sheep, or goats in order for you to be accepted. |
Whatever has a defect, you shall not offer, for it shall not be acceptable on your behalf. | 20You are not to present anything that has a defect, because it will not be accepted on your behalf." |
And whoever offers a sacrifice of a peace offering to the LORD, to fulfill his vow, or a freewill offering from the cattle or the sheep, it must be perfect to be accepted; there shall be no defect in it. | 21When a man presents a fellowship sacrifice to the LORD to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering from the herd or flock, it has to be unblemished to be acceptable; there must be no defect in it. |
Those that are blind or broken or maimed, or have an ulcer or eczema or scabs, you shall not offer to the LORD, nor make an offering by fire of them on the altar to the LORD. | 22You are not to present any animal to the LORD that is blind, injured, maimed, or has a running sore, festering rash, or scabs; you may not put any of them on the altar as a fire offering to the LORD. |
Either a bull or a lamb that has any limb too long or too short you may offer as a freewill offering, but for a vow it shall not be accepted. | 23You may sacrifice as a freewill offering any animal from the herd or flock that has an elongated or stunted limb, but it is not acceptable as a vow offering. |
‘You shall not offer to the LORD what is bruised or crushed, or torn or cut; nor shall you make any offering of them in your land. | 24You are not to present to the LORD anything that has bruised, crushed, torn, or severed testicles; you must not sacrifice them in your land. |
Nor from a foreigner’s hand shall you offer any of these as the bread of your God, because their corruption is in them, and defects are in them. They shall not be accepted on your behalf.’ ” | 25Neither you nor a foreigner are to present food to your God from any of these animals. They will not be accepted for you because they are deformed and have a defect." |
And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: | 26The LORD spoke to Moses: " |
“When a bull or a sheep or a goat is born, it shall be seven days with its mother; and from the eighth day and thereafter it shall be accepted as an offering made by fire to the LORD. | 27When an ox, sheep, or goat is born, it must remain with its mother for seven days; from the eighth day on, it will be acceptable as a gift, a fire offering to the LORD. |
Whether it is a cow or ewe, do not kill both her and her young on the same day. | 28But you are not to slaughter an animal from the herd or flock on the same day as its young. |
And when you offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the LORD, offer it of your own free will. | 29When you sacrifice a thank offering to the LORD, sacrifice it so that you may be accepted. |
On the same day it shall be eaten; you shall leave none of it until morning: I am the LORD. | 30It is to be eaten on the same day. Do not let any of it remain until morning; I am Yahweh." |
“Therefore you shall keep My commandments, and perform them: I am the LORD. | 31You are to keep My commands and do them; I am Yahweh. |
You shall not profane My holy name, but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel. I am the LORD who sanctifies you, | 32You must not profane My holy name; I must be treated as holy among the Israelites. I am Yahweh who sets you apart, |
who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD.” | 33the One who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God; I am Yahweh." |
