Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved.1Brothers and sisters, my heart's desire and prayer to God concerning them is for their salvation.
For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.2I can testify about them that they have zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.
For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.3Since they are ignorant of the righteousness of God and attempted to establish their own righteousness, they have not submitted to God's righteousness.
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.4For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes,
For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, “The man who does those things shall live by them.”5since Moses writes about the righteousness that is from the law: The one who does these things will live by them.
But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down from above)6But the righteousness that comes from faith speaks like this: Do not say in your heart, "Who will go up to heaven?" that is, to bring Christ down
or, “ ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).7or, "Who will go down into the abyss?" that is, to bring Christ up from the dead.
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach):8On the contrary, what does it say? The message is near you, in your mouth and in your heart. This is the message of faith that we proclaim:
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.9If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.10One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.
For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”11For the Scripture says, Everyone who believes on him will not be put to shame,
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.12since there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, because the same Lord of all richly blesses all who call on him.
For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”13For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?14How, then, can they call on him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about him? And how can they hear without a preacher?
And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”15And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.
But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “ LORD, who has believed our report?”16But not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our message?
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.17So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.
But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed: “Their sound has gone out to all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world.”18But I ask, "Did they not hear?" Yes, they did: Their voice has gone out to the whole earth, and their words to the ends of the world.
But I say, did Israel not know? First Moses says: “I will provoke you to jealousy by those who are not a nation, I will move you to anger by a foolish nation.”19But I ask, "Did Israel not understand?" First, Moses said, I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation; I will make you angry by a nation that lacks understanding.
But Isaiah is very bold and says: “I was found by those who did not seek Me; I was made manifest to those who did not ask for Me.”20And Isaiah says boldly, I was found by those who were not looking for me; I revealed myself to those who were not asking for me.
But to Israel he says: “All day long I have stretched out My hands To a disobedient and contrary people.”21But to Israel he says, All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and defiant people.
