“Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.1"This is my servant; I strengthen him, this is my chosen one; I delight in him. I have put my Spirit on him; he will bring justice to the nations.
He will not cry out, nor raise His voice, Nor cause His voice to be heard in the street.2He will not cry out or shout or make his voice heard in the streets.
A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth.3He will not break a bruised reed, and he will not put out a smoldering wick; he will faithfully bring justice.
He will not fail nor be discouraged, Till He has established justice in the earth; And the coastlands shall wait for His law.”4He will not grow weak or be discouraged until he has established justice on earth. The coasts and islands will wait for his instruction."
Thus says God the LORD, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it, Who gives breath to the people on it, And spirit to those who walk on it:5This is what God, the LORD, says--who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk on it--
“I, the LORD, have called You in righteousness, And will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, As a light to the Gentiles,6"I am the LORD. I have called you for a righteous purpose, and I will hold you by your hand. I will watch over you, and I will appoint you to be a covenant for the people and a light to the nations,
To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the prison, Those who sit in darkness from the prison house.7in order to open blind eyes, to bring out prisoners from the dungeon, and those sitting in darkness from the prison house.
I am the LORD, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images.8I am the LORD. That is my name, and I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols.
Behold, the former things have come to pass, And new things I declare; Before they spring forth I tell you of them.”9The past events have indeed happened. Now I declare new events; I announce them to you before they occur."
Sing to the LORD a new song, And His praise from the ends of the earth, You who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, You coastlands and you inhabitants of them!10Sing a new song to the LORD; sing his praise from the ends of the earth, you who go down to the sea with all that fills it, you coasts and islands with your inhabitants.
Let the wilderness and its cities lift up their voice, The villages that Kedar inhabits. Let the inhabitants of Sela sing, Let them shout from the top of the mountains.11Let the desert and its cities shout, the settlements where Kedar dwells cry aloud. Let the inhabitants of Sela sing for joy; let them cry out from the mountaintops.
Let them give glory to the LORD, And declare His praise in the coastlands.12Let them give glory to the LORD and declare his praise in the coasts and islands.
The LORD shall go forth like a mighty man; He shall stir up His zeal like a man of war. He shall cry out, yes, shout aloud; He shall prevail against His enemies.13The LORD advances like a warrior; he stirs up his zeal like a soldier. He shouts, he roars aloud, he prevails over his enemies.
“I have held My peace a long time, I have been still and restrained Myself. Now I will cry like a woman in labor, I will pant and gasp at once.14"I have kept silent from ages past; I have been quiet and restrained myself. But now, I will groan like a woman in labor, gasping breathlessly.
I will lay waste the mountains and hills, And dry up all their vegetation; I will make the rivers coastlands, And I will dry up the pools.15I will lay waste mountains and hills and dry up all their vegetation. I will turn rivers into islands and dry up marshes.
I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, And crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, And not forsake them.16I will lead the blind by a way they did not know; I will guide them on paths they have not known. I will turn darkness to light in front of them and rough places into level ground. This is what I will do for them, and I will not abandon them.
They shall be turned back, They shall be greatly ashamed, Who trust in carved images, Who say to the molded images, ‘You are our gods.’17They will be turned back and utterly ashamed--those who trust in an idol and say to a cast image, 'You are our gods!'
“Hear, you deaf; And look, you blind, that you may see.18"Listen, you deaf! Look, you blind, so that you may see.
Who is blind but My servant, Or deaf as My messenger whom I send? Who is blind as he who is perfect, And blind as the LORD’s servant?19Who is blind but my servant, or deaf like my messenger I am sending? Who is blind like my dedicated one, or blind like the servant of the LORD?
Seeing many things, but you do not observe; Opening the ears, but he does not hear.”20Though seeing many things, you pay no attention. Though his ears are open, he does not listen."
The LORD is well pleased for His righteousness’ sake; He will exalt the law and make it honorable.21Because of his righteousness, the LORD was pleased to magnify his instruction and make it glorious.
But this is a people robbed and plundered; All of them are snared in holes, And they are hidden in prison houses; They are for prey, and no one delivers; For plunder, and no one says, “Restore!”22But this is a people plundered and looted, all of them trapped in holes or imprisoned in dungeons. They have become plunder with no one to rescue them and loot, with no one saying, "Give it back!"
Who among you will give ear to this? Who will listen and hear for the time to come?23Who among you will hear this? Let him listen and obey in the future.
Who gave Jacob for plunder, and Israel to the robbers? Was it not the LORD, He against whom we have sinned? For they would not walk in His ways, Nor were they obedient to His law.24Who gave Jacob to the robber, and Israel to the plunderers? Was it not the LORD? Have we not sinned against him? They were not willing to walk in his ways, and they would not listen to his instruction.
Therefore He has poured on him the fury of His anger And the strength of battle; It has set him on fire all around, Yet he did not know; And it burned him, Yet he did not take it to heart.25So he poured out his furious anger and the power of war on Jacob. It surrounded him with fire, but he did not know it; it burned him, but he didn't take it to heart.
