Again, in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,1The word of the LORD came to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month:
“Son of man, write down the name of the day, this very day—the king of Babylon started his siege against Jerusalem this very day.2"Son of man, write down today's date, this very day. The king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day.
And utter a parable to the rebellious house, and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Put on a pot, set it on, And also pour water into it.3Now speak a parable to the rebellious house. Tell them, 'This is what the Lord GOD says: Put the pot on the fire--put it on, and then pour water into it!
Gather pieces of meat in it, Every good piece, The thigh and the shoulder. Fill it with choice cuts;4Place the pieces of meat in it, every good piece--thigh and shoulder. Fill it with choice bones.
Take the choice of the flock. Also pile fuel bones under it, Make it boil well, And let the cuts simmer in it.”5Take the choicest of the flock and also pile up the fuel under it. Bring it to a boil and cook the bones in it.
‘Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Woe to the bloody city, To the pot whose scum is in it, And whose scum is not gone from it! Bring it out piece by piece, On which no lot has fallen.6"'Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: Woe to the city of bloodshed, the pot that has corrosion inside it, and its corrosion has not come out of it! Empty it piece by piece; lots should not be cast for its contents.
For her blood is in her midst; She set it on top of a rock; She did not pour it on the ground, To cover it with dust.7For the blood she shed is still within her. She put it out on the bare rock; she didn't pour it on the ground to cover it with dust.
That it may raise up fury and take vengeance, I have set her blood on top of a rock, That it may not be covered.”8In order to stir up wrath and take vengeance, I have put her blood on the bare rock, so that it would not be covered.
‘Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Woe to the bloody city! I too will make the pyre great.9"'Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: Woe to the city of bloodshed! I myself will make the pile of kindling large.
Heap on the wood, Kindle the fire; Cook the meat well, Mix in the spices, And let the cuts be burned up.10Pile on the logs and kindle the fire! Cook the meat well and mix in the spices! Let the bones be burned!
“Then set the pot empty on the coals, That it may become hot and its bronze may burn, That its filthiness may be melted in it, That its scum may be consumed.11Set the empty pot on its coals so that it becomes hot and its copper glows. Then its impurity will melt inside it; its corrosion will be consumed.
She has grown weary with lies, And her great scum has not gone from her. Let her scum be in the fire!12It has frustrated every effort; its thick corrosion will not come off. Into the fire with its corrosion!
In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I have cleansed you, and you were not cleansed, You will not be cleansed of your filthiness anymore, Till I have caused My fury to rest upon you.13Because of the depravity of your uncleanness--since I tried to purify you, but you would not be purified from your uncleanness--you will not be pure again until I have satisfied my wrath on you.
I, the LORD, have spoken it; It shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not hold back, Nor will I spare, Nor will I relent; According to your ways And according to your deeds They will judge you,” Says the Lord GOD.’ ”14I, the LORD, have spoken. It is coming, and I will do it! I will not refrain, I will not show pity, and I will not relent. I will judge you according to your ways and deeds. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.'"
Also the word of the LORD came to me, saying,15Then the word of the LORD came to me:
“Son of man, behold, I take away from you the desire of your eyes with one stroke; yet you shall neither mourn nor weep, nor shall your tears run down.16"Son of man, I am about to take the delight of your eyes away from you with a fatal blow. But you must not lament or weep or let your tears flow.
Sigh in silence, make no mourning for the dead; bind your turban on your head, and put your sandals on your feet; do not cover your lips, and do not eat man’s bread of sorrow.17Groan quietly; do not observe mourning rites for the dead. Put on your turban and strap your sandals on your feet; do not cover your mustache or eat the bread of mourners."
So I spoke to the people in the morning, and at evening my wife died; and the next morning I did as I was commanded.18I spoke to the people in the morning, and my wife died in the evening. The next morning I did just as I was commanded.
And the people said to me, “Will you not tell us what these things signify to us, that you behave so?”19Then the people asked me, "Won't you tell us what these things you are doing mean for us?"
Then I answered them, “The word of the LORD came to me, saying,20So I answered them: "The word of the LORD came to me:
‘Speak to the house of Israel, “Thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Behold, I will profane My sanctuary, your arrogant boast, the desire of your eyes, the delight of your soul; and your sons and daughters whom you left behind shall fall by the sword.21Say to the house of Israel, 'This is what the Lord GOD says: I am about to desecrate my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the delight of your eyes, and the desire of your heart. Also, the sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword.
And you shall do as I have done; you shall not cover your lips nor eat man’s bread of sorrow.22Then you will do just as I have done: You will not cover your mustache or eat the bread of mourners.
Your turbans shall be on your heads and your sandals on your feet; you shall neither mourn nor weep, but you shall pine away in your iniquities and mourn with one another.23Your turbans will remain on your heads and your sandals on your feet. You will not lament or weep but will waste away because of your iniquities and will groan to one another.
Thus Ezekiel is a sign to you; according to all that he has done you shall do; and when this comes, you shall know that I am the Lord GOD.’ ”24Now Ezekiel will be a sign for you. You will do everything that he has done. When this happens, you will know that I am the Lord GOD.'
‘And you, son of man—will it not be in the day when I take from them their stronghold, their joy and their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that on which they set their minds, their sons and their daughters:25"As for you, son of man, know that on that day I will take from them their stronghold--their pride and joy, the delight of their eyes, and the longing of their hearts--as well as their sons and daughters.
that on that day one who escapes will come to you to let you hear it with your ears?26On that day a fugitive will come to you and report the news.
On that day your mouth will be opened to him who has escaped; you shall speak and no longer be mute. Thus you will be a sign to them, and they shall know that I am the LORD.’ ”27On that day your mouth will be opened to talk with him; you will speak and no longer be mute. So you will be a sign for them, and they will know that I am the LORD."
