New King James Version | Berean Study Bible |
Then He said to the disciples, “It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come! | 1Jesus said to His disciples, “It is inevitable that stumbling blocks will come, but woe to the one through whom they come! |
It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. | 2It would be better for him to have a millstone hung around his neck and to be thrown into the sea than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. |
Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. | 3Watch yourselves. If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. |
And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.” | 4Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times returns to say, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.” |
And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” | 5The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” |
So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you. | 6And the Lord answered, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you. |
And which of you, having a servant plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and sit down to eat’? | 7Which of you whose servant comes in from plowing or shepherding in the field will say to him, ‘Come at once and sit down to eat’? |
But will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for my supper, and gird yourself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you will eat and drink’? | 8Instead, won’t he tell him, ‘Prepare my meal and dress yourself to serve me while I eat and drink; and afterward you may eat and drink’? |
Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. | 9Does he thank the servant because he did what he was told? |
So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’ ” | 10So you also, when you have done everything commanded of you, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’ ” |
Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. | 11While Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem, He was passing between Samaria and Galilee. |
Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. | 12As He entered one of the villages, He was met by ten lepers. They stood at a distance |
And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” | 13and raised their voices, shouting, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” |
So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed. | 14When Jesus saw them, He said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they were on their way, they were cleansed. |
And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, | 15When one of them saw that he was healed, he came back, praising God in a loud voice. |
and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. | 16He fell facedown at Jesus’ feet in thanksgiving to Him—and he was a Samaritan. |
So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? | 17“Were not all ten cleansed?” Jesus asked. “Where then are the other nine? |
Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” | 18Was no one found except this foreigner to return and give glory to God?” |
And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.” | 19Then Jesus said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well!” |
Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; | 20When asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God will not come with observable signs. |
nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” | 21Nor will people say, ‘Look, here it is,’ or ‘There it is.’ For you see, the kingdom of God is in your midst.” |
Then He said to the disciples, “The days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. | 22Then He said to the disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. |
And they will say to you, ‘Look here!’ or ‘Look there!’ Do not go after them or follow them. | 23People will tell you, ‘Look, there He is!’ or ‘Look, here He is!’ Do not go out or chase after them. |
For as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day. | 24For just as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other, so will be the Son of Man in His day. |
But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. | 25But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. |
And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: | 26Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man: |
They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. | 27People were eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. |
Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; | 28It was the same in the days of Lot: People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. |
but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. | 29But on the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. |
Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed. | 30It will be just like that on the day the Son of Man is revealed. |
“In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. | 31On that day, let no one on the housetop come down to retrieve his possessions. Likewise, let no one in the field return for anything he has left behind. |
Remember Lot’s wife. | 32Remember Lot’s wife! |
Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. | 33Whoever tries to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will preserve it. |
I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. | 34I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed: One will be taken and the other left. |
Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. | 35Two women will be grinding grain together: One will be taken and the other left.” |
Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left.” | 36 |
And they answered and said to Him, “Where, Lord?” So He said to them, “Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.” | 37“Where, Lord?” they asked. Jesus answered, “Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.” |
