NET BibleNew International Version
Praise the LORD, O my soul! O LORD my God, you are magnificent. You are robed in splendor and majesty. 1Praise the LORD, my soul. LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty.
He covers himself with light as if it were a garment. He stretches out the skies like a tent curtain, 2The LORD wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent
and lays the beams of the upper rooms of his palace on the rain clouds. He makes the clouds his chariot, and travels along on the wings of the wind. 3and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind.
He makes the winds his messengers, and the flaming fire his attendant. 4He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants.
He established the earth on its foundations; it will never be upended. 5He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.
The watery deep covered it like a garment; the waters reached above the mountains. 6You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.
Your shout made the waters retreat; at the sound of your thunderous voice they hurried off--7But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight;
as the mountains rose up, and the valleys went down--to the place you appointed for them. 8they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them.
You set up a boundary for them that they could not cross, so that they would not cover the earth again. 9You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth.
He turns springs into streams; they flow between the mountains. 10He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains.
They provide water for all the animals in the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. 11They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
The birds of the sky live beside them; they chirp among the bushes. 12The birds of the sky nest by the waters; they sing among the branches.
He waters the mountains from the upper rooms of his palace; the earth is full of the fruit you cause to grow. 13He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.
He provides grass for the cattle, and crops for people to cultivate, so they can produce food from the ground, 14He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate-- bringing forth food from the earth:
as well as wine that makes people feel so good, and so they can have oil to make their faces shine, as well as food that sustains people's lives. 15wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts.
The trees of the LORD receive all the rain they need, the cedars of Lebanon which he planted, 16The trees of the LORD are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
where the birds make nests, near the evergreens in which the herons live. 17There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the junipers.
The wild goats live in the high mountains; the rock badgers find safety in the cliffs. 18The high mountains belong to the wild goats; the crags are a refuge for the hyrax.
He made the moon to mark the months, and the sun sets according to a regular schedule. 19He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down.
You make it dark and night comes, during which all the beasts of the forest prowl around. 20You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl.
The lions roar for prey, seeking their food from God. 21The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God.
When the sun rises, they withdraw and sleep in their dens. 22The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens.
Men then go out to do their work, and labor away until evening. 23Then people go out to their work, to their labor until evening.
How many living things you have made, O LORD! You have exhibited great skill in making all of them; the earth is full of the living things you have made. 24How many are your works, LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.
Over here is the deep, wide sea, which teems with innumerable swimming creatures, living things both small and large. 25There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number-- living things both large and small.
The ships travel there, and over here swims the whale you made to play in it. 26There the ships go to and fro, and Leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.
All of your creatures wait for you to provide them with food on a regular basis. 27All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time.
You give food to them and they receive it; you open your hand and they are filled with food. 28When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things.
When you ignore them, they panic. When you take away their life's breath, they die and return to dust. 29When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust.
When you send your life-giving breath, they are created, and you replenish the surface of the ground. 30When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.
May the splendor of the LORD endure! May the LORD find pleasure in the living things he has made! 31May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works--
He looks down on the earth and it shakes; he touches the mountains and they start to smolder. 32he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke.
I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God as long as I exist! 33I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
May my thoughts be pleasing to him! I will rejoice in the LORD. 34May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the LORD.
May sinners disappear from the earth, and the wicked vanish! Praise the LORD, O my soul! Praise the LORD! 35But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Praise the LORD, my soul. Praise the LORD.
