| 2"Command the Israelites to bring to you pure oil of beaten olives for the light, to make a lamp burn continually. | 2"Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning continually. |
| 3Outside the veil-canopy of the congregation in the Meeting Tent Aaron must arrange it from evening until morning before the LORD continually. This is a perpetual statute throughout your generations. | 3Outside the curtain that shields the ark of the covenant law in the tent of meeting, Aaron is to tend the lamps before the LORD from evening till morning, continually. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come. |
| 4On the ceremonially pure lampstand he must arrange the lamps before the LORD continually. | 4The lamps on the pure gold lampstand before the LORD must be tended continually. |
| 5"You must take choice wheat flour and bake twelve loaves; there must be two tenths of an ephah of flour in each loaf, | 5"Take the finest flour and bake twelve loaves of bread, using two-tenths of an ephah for each loaf. |
| 6and you must set them in two rows, six in a row, on the ceremonially pure table before the LORD. | 6Arrange them in two stacks, six in each stack, on the table of pure gold before the LORD. |
| 7You must put pure frankincense on each row, and it will become a memorial portion for the bread, a gift to the LORD. | 7By each stack put some pure incense as a memorial portion to represent the bread and to be a food offering presented to the LORD. |
| 8Each Sabbath day Aaron must arrange it before the LORD continually; this portion is from the Israelites as a perpetual covenant. | 8This bread is to be set out before the LORD regularly, Sabbath after Sabbath, on behalf of the Israelites, as a lasting covenant. |
| 9It will belong to Aaron and his sons, and they must eat it in a holy place because it is most holy to him, a perpetual allotted portion from the gifts of the LORD." | 9It belongs to Aaron and his sons, who are to eat it in the sanctuary area, because it is a most holy part of their perpetual share of the food offerings presented to the LORD." |
| 10Now an Israelite woman's son whose father was an Egyptian went out among the Israelites, and the Israelite woman's son and an Israelite man had a fight in the camp. | 10Now the son of an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father went out among the Israelites, and a fight broke out in the camp between him and an Israelite. |
| 11The Israelite woman's son misused the Name and cursed, so they brought him to Moses. (Now his mother's name was Shelomith daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.) | 11The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name with a curse; so they brought him to Moses. (His mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri the Danite.) |
| 12So they placed him in custody until they were able to make a clear legal decision for themselves based on words from the mouth of the LORD. | 12They put him in custody until the will of the LORD should be made clear to them. |
| 13Then the LORD spoke to Moses: | 13Then the LORD said to Moses: |
| 14"Bring the one who cursed outside the camp, and all who heard him are to lay their hands on his head, and the whole congregation is to stone him to death. | 14"Take the blasphemer outside the camp. All those who heard him are to lay their hands on his head, and the entire assembly is to stone him. |
| 15Moreover, you are to tell the Israelites, 'If any man curses his God he will bear responsibility for his sin, | 15Say to the Israelites: 'Anyone who curses their God will be held responsible; |
| 16and one who misuses the name of the LORD must surely be put to death. The whole congregation must surely stone him, whether he is a foreigner or a native citizen; when he misuses the Name he must be put to death. | 16anyone who blasphemes the name of the LORD is to be put to death. The entire assembly must stone them. Whether foreigner or native-born, when they blaspheme the Name they are to be put to death. |
| 17"'If a man beats any person to death, he must be put to death. | 17"'Anyone who takes the life of a human being is to be put to death. |
| 18One who beats an animal to death must make restitution for it, life for life. | 18Anyone who takes the life of someone's animal must make restitution--life for life. |
| 19If a man inflicts an injury on his fellow citizen, just as he has done it must be done to him-- | 19Anyone who injures their neighbor is to be injured in the same manner: |
| 20fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth--just as he inflicts an injury on another person that same injury must be inflicted on him. | 20fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. The one who has inflicted the injury must suffer the same injury. |
| 21One who beats an animal to death must make restitution for it, but one who beats a person to death must be put to death. | 21Whoever kills an animal must make restitution, but whoever kills a human being is to be put to death. |
| 22There will be one regulation for you, whether a foreigner or a native citizen, for I am the LORD your God.'" | 22You are to have the same law for the foreigner and the native-born. I am the LORD your God.'" |
| 23Then Moses spoke to the Israelites and they brought the one who cursed outside the camp and stoned him with stones. So the Israelites did just as the LORD had commanded Moses. | 23Then Moses spoke to the Israelites, and they took the blasphemer outside the camp and stoned him. The Israelites did as the LORD commanded Moses. |
