| 33"I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, 'He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.' | 33And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.' |

| 38And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, "What do you seek?" They said to Him, "Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?" | 38Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, "What do you want?" They said, "Rabbi" (which means "Teacher"), "where are you staying?" |
| 39He said to them, "Come, and you will see." So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. | 39"Come," he replied, "and you will see." So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon. |
| 40One of the two who heard John speak and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. | 40Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. |
| 41He found first his own brother Simon and said to him, "We have found the Messiah " (which translated means Christ). | 41The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (that is, the Christ). |
| 42He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas " (which is translated Peter). | 42And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which, when translated, is Peter). |
| 43The next day He purposed to go into Galilee, and He found Philip. And Jesus said to him, "Follow Me." | 43The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, "Follow me." |
| 44Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter. | 44Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. |

| 50Jesus answered and said to him, "Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these." | 50Jesus said, "You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that." |
| 51And He said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man." | 51He then added, "Very truly I tell you, you will see 'heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on' the Son of Man." |
