Deuteronomy 14
NASB Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995New International Version
"You are the sons of the LORD your God; you shall not cut yourselves nor shave your forehead for the sake of the dead.1You are the children of the LORD your God. Do not cut yourselves or shave the front of your heads for the dead,
"For you are a holy people to the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.2for you are a people holy to the LORD your God. Out of all the peoples on the face of the earth, the LORD has chosen you to be his treasured possession.
"You shall not eat any detestable thing.3Do not eat any detestable thing.
"These are the animals which you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat,4These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat,
the deer, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope and the mountain sheep.5the deer, the gazelle, the roe deer, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope and the mountain sheep.
"Any animal that divides the hoof and has the hoof split in two and chews the cud, among the animals, that you may eat.6You may eat any animal that has a divided hoof and that chews the cud.
"Nevertheless, you are not to eat of these among those which chew the cud, or among those that divide the hoof in two: the camel and the rabbit and the shaphan, for though they chew the cud, they do not divide the hoof; they are unclean for you.7However, of those that chew the cud or that have a divided hoof you may not eat the camel, the rabbit or the hyrax. Although they chew the cud, they do not have a divided hoof; they are ceremonially unclean for you.
"The pig, because it divides the hoof but does not chew the cud, it is unclean for you. You shall not eat any of their flesh nor touch their carcasses.8The pig is also unclean; although it has a divided hoof, it does not chew the cud. You are not to eat their meat or touch their carcasses.
"These you may eat of all that are in water: anything that has fins and scales you may eat,9Of all the creatures living in the water, you may eat any that has fins and scales.
but anything that does not have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean for you.10But anything that does not have fins and scales you may not eat; for you it is unclean.
"You may eat any clean bird.11You may eat any clean bird.
"But these are the ones which you shall not eat: the eagle and the vulture and the buzzard,12But these you may not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture,
and the red kite, the falcon, and the kite in their kinds,13the red kite, the black kite, any kind of falcon,
and every raven in its kind,14any kind of raven,
and the ostrich, the owl, the sea gull, and the hawk in their kinds,15the horned owl, the screech owl, the gull, any kind of hawk,
the little owl, the great owl, the white owl,16the little owl, the great owl, the white owl,
the pelican, the carrion vulture, the cormorant,17the desert owl, the osprey, the cormorant,
the stork, and the heron in their kinds, and the hoopoe and the bat.18the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe and the bat.
"And all the teeming life with wings are unclean to you; they shall not be eaten.19All flying insects are unclean to you; do not eat them.
"You may eat any clean bird.20But any winged creature that is clean you may eat.
"You shall not eat anything which dies of itself. You may give it to the alien who is in your town, so that he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner, for you are a holy people to the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk.21Do not eat anything you find already dead. You may give it to the foreigner residing in any of your towns, and they may eat it, or you may sell it to any other foreigner. But you are a people holy to the LORD your God. Do not cook a young goat in its mother's milk.
"You shall surely tithe all the produce from what you sow, which comes out of the field every year.22Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year.
"You shall eat in the presence of the LORD your God, at the place where He chooses to establish His name, the tithe of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and your flock, so that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.23Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the LORD your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the LORD your God always.
"If the distance is so great for you that you are not able to bring the tithe, since the place where the LORD your God chooses to set His name is too far away from you when the LORD your God blesses you,24But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the LORD your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the LORD will choose to put his Name is so far away),
then you shall exchange it for money, and bind the money in your hand and go to the place which the LORD your God chooses.25then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the LORD your God will choose.
"You may spend the money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen, or sheep, or wine, or strong drink, or whatever your heart desires; and there you shall eat in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice, you and your household.26Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice.
"Also you shall not neglect the Levite who is in your town, for he has no portion or inheritance among you.27And do not neglect the Levites living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own.
"At the end of every third year you shall bring out all the tithe of your produce in that year, and shall deposit it in your town.28At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year's produce and store it in your towns,
"The Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance among you, and the alien, the orphan and the widow who are in your town, shall come and eat and be satisfied, in order that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.29so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.
