There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. | 1Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. |
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. | 2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. |
For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: | 3For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, |
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. | 4so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. |
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. | 5For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. |
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. | 6For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, |
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. | 7because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, |
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. | 8and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. |
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. | 9However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. |
And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. | 10If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. |
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. | 11But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. |
Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. | 12So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh-- |
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. | 13for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. |
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. | 14For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. |
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. | 15For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!" |
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: | 16The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, |
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. | 17and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. |
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. | 18For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. |
For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. | 19For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. |
For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, | 20For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope |
Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. | 21that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. |
For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. | 22For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. |
And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. | 23And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body. |
For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? | 24For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? |
But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. | 25But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it. |
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. | 26In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; |
And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. | 27and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. |
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. | 28And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. |
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. | 29For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; |
Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. | 30and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. |
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? | 31What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? |
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? | 32He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? |
Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. | 33Who will bring a charge against God's elect? God is the one who justifies; |
Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. | 34who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. |
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? | 35Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? |
As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. | 36Just as it is written, "FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED." |
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. | 37But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. |
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, | 38For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, |
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. | 39nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. |
