If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. | 1So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. |
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. | 2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. |
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. | 3For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. |
When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. | 4When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. |
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: | 5Therefore, put to death what belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry. |
For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: | 6Because of these, God's wrath is coming upon the disobedient, |
In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. | 7and you once walked in these things when you were living in them. |
But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. | 8But now, put away all the following: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth. |
Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; | 9Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old self with its practices |
And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: | 10and have put on the new self. You are being renewed in knowledge according to the image of your Creator. |
Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. | 11In Christ there is not Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all. |
Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; | 12Therefore, as God's chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, |
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. | 13bearing with one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a grievance against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you are also to forgive. |
And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. | 14Above all, put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. |
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. | 15And let the peace of Christ, to which you were also called in one body, rule your hearts. And be thankful. |
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. | 16Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. |
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. | 17And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. |
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. | 18Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. |
Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. | 19Husbands, love your wives and don't be bitter toward them. |
Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. | 20Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. |
Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. | 21Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they won't become discouraged. |
Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: | 22Slaves, obey your human masters in everything. Don't work only while being watched, as people-pleasers, but work wholeheartedly, fearing the Lord. |
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; | 23Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people, |
Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. | 24knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ. |
But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons. | 25For the wrongdoer will be paid back for whatever wrong he has done, and there is no favoritism. |
