Later on, the LORD told Moses, | 1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, |
"Tell Aaron and his sons that they are to separate themselves for the sacred things of the Israelis and that they are not to defile my holy name. I am the LORD. | 2Speak unto Aaron and to his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel, and that they profane not my holy name in those things which they hallow unto me: I am the LORD. |
Tell them that whoever among your descendants throughout your generations approaches the sacred things that the Israelis had consecrated to the LORD while still remaining unclean is to be eliminated from my presence. I am the LORD. | 3Say unto them, Whosoever he be of all your seed among your generations, that goeth unto the holy things, which the children of Israel hallow unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, that soul shall be cut off from my presence: I am the LORD. |
If one of Aaron's descendants has an infectious skin disease or a discharge, he is not to eat anything sacred until he has been cleansed. Anyone who touches an unclean thing on account of the dead, or who has a seminal discharge, | 4What man soever of the seed of Aaron is a leper, or hath a running issue; he shall not eat of the holy things, until he be clean. And whoso toucheth any thing that is unclean by the dead, or a man whose seed goeth from him; |
or who becomes unclean by touching a creeping creature or another human being, whatever the uncleanness may be— | 5Or whosoever toucheth any creeping thing, whereby he may be made unclean, or a man of whom he may take uncleanness, whatsoever uncleanness he hath; |
such a person who comes in contact with anything like this will become unclean until evening. As a result, he is not to eat the sacred things unless he has bathed himself with water. | 6The soul which hath touched any such shall be unclean until even, and shall not eat of the holy things, unless he wash his flesh with water. |
When the sun has gone down and he has been cleansed, he may eat of the sacred things, since that's his food. | 7And when the sun is down, he shall be clean, and shall afterward eat of the holy things; because it is his food. |
He is not to eat the carcass of an animal that was torn by animals, thereby defiling himself with it. I am the LORD. | 8That which dieth of itself, or is torn with beasts, he shall not eat to defile himself therewith: I am the LORD. |
They are to keep my charge. By doing so, they won't bear the punishment of sin because of it and therefore die if they've been defiled by it. I am the LORD, who sets them apart." | 9They shall therefore keep mine ordinance, lest they bear sin for it, and die therefore, if they profane it: I the LORD do sanctify them. |
"No resident alien is to eat anything sacred. Neither the visitor of the priest nor a hired laborer is to eat anything sacred. | 10There shall no stranger eat of the holy thing: a sojourner of the priest, or an hired servant, shall not eat of the holy thing. |
If a priest acquires a slave as property with his own money, he may eat with him. Those who were born in his house may eat his food. | 11But if the priest buy any soul with his money, he shall eat of it, and he that is born in his house: they shall eat of his meat. |
If a priest's daughter marries a resident alien, she is not to eat the sacred raised offerings. | 12If the priest's daughter also be married unto a stranger, she may not eat of an offering of the holy things. |
If the priest's daughter is a widow, or is divorced and childless, so that she has to return to her father's house as in her younger days, she may eat her father's food, but no resident alien may eat it. | 13But if the priest's daughter be a widow, or divorced, and have no child, and is returned unto her father's house, as in her youth, she shall eat of her father's meat: but there shall no stranger eat thereof. |
If a person eats anything sacred inadvertently, he is to add a fifth part to it and then give the sacred thing to the priest. | 14And if a man eat of the holy thing unwittingly, then he shall put the fifth part thereof unto it, and shall give it unto the priest with the holy thing. |
They are not to defile the sacred things of the Israelis that they have offered to the LORD, | 15And they shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, which they offer unto the LORD; |
thereby causing them to bear the punishment of their iniquity for wrongdoing when they eat their sacred things, because I am the LORD, who sets them apart." | 16Or suffer them to bear the iniquity of trespass, when they eat their holy things: for I the LORD do sanctify them. |
The LORD told Moses, | 17And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, |
"Tell Aaron, his sons, and all the Israelis that when a person from the house of Israel or from the resident aliens living in Israel brings his offering to the LORD as a whole burnt offering (whether in fulfillment of a promise or a free will offerings), | 18Speak unto Aaron, and to his sons, and unto all the children of Israel, and say unto them, Whatsoever he be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers in Israel, that will offer his oblation for all his vows, and for all his freewill offerings, which they will offer unto the LORD for a burnt offering; |
so that he'll be sure to be accepted, he is to offer a male without defect from the bulls, the lambs, and the goats. | 19Ye shall offer at your own will a male without blemish, of the beeves, of the sheep, or of the goats. |
However, whatever has a defect is not to be offered, because it won't be acceptable for you. | 20But whatsoever hath a blemish, that shall ye not offer: for it shall not be acceptable for you. |
"If a person brings a peace offering sacrifice to the LORD to fulfill a vow or a free will offering from the herd or the flock, it is to be sound in order to be accepted, without any defect in it. | 21And whosoever offereth a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the LORD to accomplish his vow, or a freewill offering in beeves or sheep, it shall be perfect to be accepted; there shall be no blemish therein. |
You are not to bring to the LORD an offering that is blind, fractured, mutilated, or infected with ulcers, scurvy, or scales. You are not to present any of them as an offering made by fire on the altar for the LORD. | 22Blind, or broken, or maimed, or having a wen, or scurvy, or scabbed, ye shall not offer these unto the LORD, nor make an offering by fire of them upon the altar unto the LORD. |
"You may offer a bull or lamb that has one limb longer than the other or that is stunted as a free will offering, but it's not acceptable in fulfillment of a promise. | 23Either a bullock or a lamb that hath any thing superfluous or lacking in his parts, that mayest thou offer for a freewill offering; but for a vow it shall not be accepted. |
You are not to bring to the LORD an animal that has been emasculated, crushed, torn, or cut apart. You are not to practice this in your land. | 24Ye shall not offer unto the LORD that which is bruised, or crushed, or broken, or cut; neither shall ye make any offering thereof in your land. |
A resident alien is not to offer as food to your God any of these items, because they are afflicted with ritual corruption due to their defects. They're not acceptable for you." | 25Neither from a stranger's hand shall ye offer the bread of your God of any of these; because their corruption is in them, and blemishes be in them: they shall not be accepted for you. |
The LORD told Moses, | 26And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, |
"Whenever a bull, a sheep, or a goat is born, it is to remain for seven days under the care of its mother. But on the eighth day onwards, it may be accepted as an offering made by fire to the LORD. | 27When a bullock, or a sheep, or a goat, is brought forth, then it shall be seven days under the dam; and from the eighth day and thenceforth it shall be accepted for an offering made by fire unto the LORD. |
However, you are not to slaughter a bull or a ewe along with its offspring on the same day. | 28And whether it be cow or ewe, ye shall not kill it and her young both in one day. |
When you offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the LORD, bring it so that it's acceptable for you. | 29And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the LORD, offer it at your own will. |
It is to be eaten that same day. You are not to leave any of it until morning. I am the LORD. | 30On the same day it shall be eaten up; ye shall leave none of it until the morrow: I am the LORD. |
"Keep my commands and observe them. I am the LORD. | 31Therefore shall ye keep my commandments, and do them: I am the LORD. |
"You are not to defile my sacred name, because I've been set apart in the midst of the Israelis. Furthermore, I am the LORD, who sets you apart— | 32Neither shall ye profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I am the LORD which hallow you, |
who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God. I am the LORD." | 33That brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD. |
