International Standard Version | Holman Christian Standard Bible |
Brothers, if a person is caught doing something wrong, those of you who are spiritual should restore that person gently. Watch out for yourself so that you are not tempted as well. | 1Brothers, if someone is caught in any wrongdoing, you who are spiritual should restore such a person with a gentle spirit, watching out for yourselves so you also won't be tempted. |
Practice carrying each other's burdens. In this way you will fulfill the law of the Messiah. | 2Carry one another's burdens; in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. |
For if anyone thinks he is something when he is really nothing, he is only fooling himself. | 3For if anyone considers himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. |
Each person must examine his own actions, and then he can boast about his own accomplishments and not about someone else. | 4But each person should examine his own work, and then he will have a reason for boasting in himself alone, and not in respect to someone else. |
For everyone must carry his own load. | 5For each person will have to carry his own load. |
The person who is taught the word should share all his goods with his teacher. | 6The one who is taught the message must share all his good things with the teacher. |
Stop being deceived; God is not to be ridiculed. A person harvests whatever he plants: | 7Don't be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows he will also reap, |
The person who sows through human means will harvest decay from human means, but the person who sows in the Spirit will harvest eternal life from the Spirit. | 8because the one who sows to his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit. |
Let's not get tired of doing what is good, for at the right time we will reap a harvest—if we do not give up. | 9So we must not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don't give up. |
So then, whenever we have the opportunity, let's practice doing good to everyone, especially to the family of faith. | 10Therefore, as we have opportunity, we must work for the good of all, especially for those who belong to the household of faith. |
Look at how large these letters are because I am writing with my own hand! | 11Look at what large letters I use as I write to you in my own handwriting. |
These people who want to impress others by their external appearance are trying to force you to be circumcised, simply to avoid being persecuted for the cross of the Messiah. | 12Those who want to make a good impression in the flesh are the ones who would compel you to be circumcised--but only to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ. |
Why, not even those who are circumcised obey the Law! They simply want you to be circumcised so that they can boast about your external appearance. | 13For even the circumcised don't keep the law themselves; however, they want you to be circumcised in order to boast about your flesh. |
But may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world! | 14But as for me, I will never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. The world has been crucified to me through the cross, and I to the world. |
For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision matters. Rather, what matters is being a new creation. | 15For both circumcision and uncircumcision mean nothing; what matters instead is a new creation. |
Now may peace be on all those who live by this principle, and may mercy be on the Israel of God. | 16May peace come to all those who follow this standard, and mercy to the Israel of God! |
Let no one make any more trouble for me, because I carry the scars of Jesus on my own body. | 17From now on, let no one cause me trouble, because I bear on my body scars for the cause of Jesus. |
May the grace of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be with your spirit, brothers! Amen. | 18Brothers, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. |
