Awake, awake! Clothe yourself with strength, O Zion! Put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city, for the uncircumcised and the unclean won't enter you. 1"Wake up, wake up; put on your strength, Zion! Put on your beautiful garments, Jerusalem, the Holy City! For the uncircumcised and the unclean will no longer enter you.
Shake yourself from the dust and arise, and sit on your throne, O Jerusalem! Loosen the bonds from your neck, O captive daughter of Zion.2Stand up, shake the dust off yourself! Take your seat, Jerusalem. Remove the bonds from your neck, captive Daughter Zion."
For this is what the LORD says: "You were sold for nothing, and you'll be redeemed without money."3For this is what the LORD says: "You were sold for nothing, and you will be redeemed without silver."
For this is what the LORD says: "My people went down long ago into Egypt to live there; the Assyrian, too, has oppressed them without cause.4For this is what the Lord GOD says: "At first my people went down to Egypt to reside there, then Assyria oppressed them without cause.
"Now therefore, what am I doing here," asks the LORD, "seeing that my people are taken away without cause? Those who rule over them are deluded," says the LORD, "and continuously, all the day long, my name is blasphemed. 5So now what have I here"--this is the LORD's declaration--"that my people are taken away for nothing? Its rulers wail"--this is the LORD's declaration--"and my name is continually blasphemed all day long.
Therefore my people will know my name; in that day they'll know that it is I who speaks, 'Here I am!'6Therefore my people will know my name; therefore they will know on that day that I am he who says: Here I am."
"How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the one who brings news of peace, who announces good things, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, 'Your God reigns!'7How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the herald, who proclaims peace, who brings news of good things, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns!"
Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices, together they sing for joy; for they will see in plain sight the return of the LORD to Zion with compassion. 8The voices of your watchmen--they lift up their voices, shouting for joy together; for every eye will see when the LORD returns to Zion.
"Break forth together into singing, you ruins of Jerusalem; for the LORD has comforted his people, and he has redeemed Jerusalem.9Be joyful, rejoice together, you ruins of Jerusalem! For the LORD has comforted his people; he has redeemed Jerusalem.
The LORD has bared his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.10The LORD has displayed his holy arm in the sight of all the nations; all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.
"Depart! Depart! Go out from there; touch no unclean thing; go out from the midst of her; purify yourselves, you who carry the vessels of the LORD.11Leave, leave, go out from there! Do not touch anything unclean; go out from her, purify yourselves, you who carry the vessels of the LORD.
For you won't go out in haste, nor will you go in flight; for the LORD will go before you; and the God of Israel will be your rear guard. He is called the God of all the earth." 12For you will not leave in a hurry, and you will not have to take flight; because the LORD is going before you, and the God of Israel is your rear guard.
"Look! My servant will prosper, and he will be exalted and lifted up, and will be very high.13See, my servant will be successful; he will be raised and lifted up and greatly exalted.
Just as many were astonished at you — so was he marred in his appearance, more than any human, and his form beyond that of human semblance —14Just as many were appalled at you--his appearance was so disfigured that he did not look like a man, and his form did not resemble a human being--
so will he startle many nations. Kings will shut their mouths at him; for what had not been told them they will see, and what they had not heard they will understand.15so he will sprinkle many nations. Kings will shut their mouths because of him, for they will see what had not been told them, and they will understand what they had not heard.
