Abaddon and Death say
In the context of Job, Abaddon and Death are personified forces representing destruction and the end of life. Abaddon, often associated with the realm of the dead, is mentioned in other scriptures such as Revelation 9:11, where it is described as the angel of the abyss. This highlights the theme of ultimate destruction and judgment. In ancient Near Eastern cultures, death was often personified, reflecting the universal human experience of mortality and the fear associated with it. The mention of these entities underscores the mystery and inaccessibility of divine wisdom, which even the most powerful forces of destruction cannot fully comprehend.

‘We have heard a rumor about it.’
This phrase suggests that even the most profound and mysterious entities, like Abaddon and Death, have only a limited understanding of divine wisdom. The use of "rumor" implies a distant, incomplete knowledge, emphasizing that true wisdom is hidden and beyond the grasp of even the most formidable forces. This echoes the biblical theme that God's wisdom is inscrutable and not fully accessible to any created being, as seen in passages like Romans 11:33, which speaks of the depth of God's wisdom and knowledge. The idea that wisdom is elusive and only partially known even to powerful entities serves to elevate the divine nature of true wisdom, which is ultimately found in God alone.

Teaching Points
The Mystery of Wisdom
True wisdom is beyond human comprehension and cannot be fully grasped through earthly means or experiences. It is a divine attribute that God alone possesses in its fullness.

The Limitations of Human Understanding
Even the most profound human experiences, represented by Destruction and Death, only have a limited understanding of wisdom. This highlights the need for humility in our pursuit of knowledge.

The Fear of the Lord
The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. Reverence and awe for God are foundational to gaining insight and understanding in life.

The Role of Suffering
Suffering and trials, as experienced by Job, can lead to a deeper search for wisdom and understanding of God's purposes, even when answers are not immediately apparent.

Christ as the Fulfillment of Wisdom
In the New Testament, Jesus is revealed as the embodiment of God's wisdom, offering believers a personal relationship with the source of all understanding.(22) Destruction and death say.--That destruction and death should have heard the fame of wisdom is natural, as it consists in departing from the evil which leads to their abode.

Verse 22. - Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears. "Death and destruction" seem to represent the inhabitants of Sheol - the world of the departed. Job personifies them, and represents them as saying, that in their gloomy and remote abode (Job 10:21, 22) they have heard some dim rumour, some vague report, of the "place" of wisdom and understanding, the nature of which, however, they do not communicate to him. His idea seems to be that their knowledge on the subject does not much transcend the knowledge of living men, whom he regards as profoundly ignorant with respect to it. He thus prepares the way for his assertion in the next verse. Man, neither living nor dead, can make any answer to the great question raised; but -
