Make tassels
The Hebrew word for "tassels" is "tzitzit," which refers to the fringes or threads that are to be attached to the corners of garments. This command is deeply rooted in Jewish tradition and serves as a physical reminder of the commandments of God. The tzitzit are meant to remind the wearer of their covenant with God and to live a life of holiness and obedience. In a broader sense, this practice underscores the importance of visible symbols in maintaining spiritual awareness and commitment.

on the four corners
The phrase "four corners" indicates the completeness and universality of the command. In ancient times, garments were often rectangular, and the four corners would represent the entirety of the garment. This can be seen as a metaphor for the all-encompassing nature of God's law, which is meant to cover every aspect of life. The number four in biblical numerology often symbolizes universality or the earth, suggesting that God's commandments are meant for all people and all areas of life.

of the cloak
The "cloak" refers to the outer garment worn by individuals in ancient Israel. This garment was not only a piece of clothing but also a symbol of one's identity and status. By placing tassels on the cloak, the Israelites were to integrate their faith into their daily lives, making their commitment to God visible to themselves and others. This serves as a reminder that faith is not just a private matter but should be evident in one's public life and actions.

you wear
The phrase "you wear" personalizes the command, emphasizing individual responsibility in following God's laws. It suggests that each person is accountable for their own spiritual journey and must actively choose to live in accordance with God's commandments. This personal application of the law highlights the intimate relationship between the believer and God, where obedience is not just a communal expectation but a personal commitment.

(12) Thou shalt make thee fringes.--See Numbers 16:32-41 for the origin of this requirement. We may call this fringe (or ?????????, Greek) on the four sides of the square shawl or mantle, a mourning for the one man who was executed for sabbath breaking in the wilderness, as well as a reminder to Israel to do all the commandments and be holy unto their God. Of this ?????????, when worn by our Lord on earth, the sick laid hold and were healed. His obedience and His suffering for the transgressions of God's people are perfect and without flaw.

The principle of these precepts is evident. Even the dress of God's people must be distinctive. And whether they eat or drink, or whatsoever they do, they must do all to the glory of God. These laws have a symbolical and a sanitary side; being made for the physical well-being as well as for the spiritual teaching of God's people.

Verse 12. - (Cf. Numbers 15:38.) Fringes; properly, tassels. The tunic of the Hebrews appears to have been divided at the bottom in front, and back, so that four corners or wings (כַּנְפות) were made, to each of which a tassel was appended (Greek, κράσπεδον, Matthew 9:20; Matthew 23:5, etc.).
