Jesus Himself instructs His disciples to be watchful and alert, especially concerning His second coming. In Mark 13:33 , Jesus warns, "Be on your guard and stay alert! For you do not know when the appointed time will come."

The Apostle Paul also emphasizes the importance of spiritual vigilance. In Acts 20:28-31 , Paul exhorts the Ephesian elders to "keep watch over yourselves and the entire flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers." He warns them of the coming dangers from false teachers and urges them to be diligent in their oversight.

The role of a watchman in a Christian context extends beyond mere observation. It involves a deep sense of responsibility for the spiritual well-being of others. Christian ministers, pastors, and leaders are often seen as modern-day watchmen, tasked with guiding their congregations in truth and righteousness. They are called to be vigilant against false teachings and moral decay, ensuring that their communities remain faithful to the teachings of Scripture.

The watchman's role is also a call to prayer and intercession. Isaiah 62:6-7 illustrates this aspect: "On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, and give Him no rest until He establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth." Here, watchmen are depicted as persistent intercessors, continually bringing the needs of the people before God.
