New Living Translation | NET Bible |
As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. | 1For the music director; a well-written song by the Korahites. As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God! |
I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? | 2I thirst for God, for the living God. I say, "When will I be able to go and appear in God's presence?" |
Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, “Where is this God of yours?” | 3I cannot eat, I weep day and night; all day long they say to me, "Where is your God?" |
My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration! | 4I will remember and weep! For I was once walking along with the great throng to the temple of God, shouting and giving thanks along with the crowd as we celebrated the holy festival. |
Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and | 5Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention. |
my God! Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you— even from distant Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan, from the land of Mount Mizar. | 6I am depressed, so I will pray to you while I am trapped here in the region of the upper Jordan, from Hermon, from Mount Mizar. |
I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me. | 7One deep stream calls out to another at the sound of your waterfalls; all your billows and waves overwhelm me. |
But each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life. | 8By day the LORD decrees his loyal love, and by night he gives me a song, a prayer to the living God. |
“O God my rock,” I cry, “why have you forgotten me? Why must I wander around in grief, oppressed by my enemies?” | 9I will pray to God, my high ridge: "Why do you ignore me? Why must I walk around mourning because my enemies oppress me?" |
Their taunts break my bones. They scoff, “Where is this God of yours?” | 10My enemies' taunts cut into me to the bone, as they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?" |
Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God! | 11Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention. |
