The LORD is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? | 1A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread? |
When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. | 2When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. |
Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident. | 3Though a host encamp against me, My heart will not fear; Though war arise against me, In spite of this I shall be confident. |
The one thing I ask of the LORD— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple. | 4One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD And to meditate in His temple. |
For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock. | 5For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock. |
Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me. At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy, singing and praising the LORD with music. | 6And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, And I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD. |
Hear me as I pray, O LORD. Be merciful and answer me! | 7Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice, And be gracious to me and answer me. |
My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.” | 8When You said, "Seek My face," my heart said to You, "Your face, O LORD, I shall seek." |
Do not turn your back on me. Do not reject your servant in anger. You have always been my helper. Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me, O God of my salvation! | 9Do not hide Your face from me, Do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; Do not abandon me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation! |
Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close. | 10For my father and my mother have forsaken me, But the LORD will take me up. |
Teach me how to live, O LORD. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me. | 11Teach me Your way, O LORD, And lead me in a level path Because of my foes. |
Do not let me fall into their hands. For they accuse me of things I’ve never done; with every breath they threaten me with violence. | 12Do not deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries, For false witnesses have risen against me, And such as breathe out violence. |
Yet I am confident I will see the LORD’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. | 13I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living. |
Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD. | 14Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD. |
