New Living Translation | English Standard Version |
The LORD is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? | 1The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? |
When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. | 2When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall. |
Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident. | 3Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. |
The one thing I ask of the LORD— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple. | 4One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple. |
For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock. | 5For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock. |
Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me. At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy, singing and praising the LORD with music. | 6And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the LORD. |
Hear me as I pray, O LORD. Be merciful and answer me! | 7Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me! |
My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.” | 8You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, LORD, do I seek.” |
Do not turn your back on me. Do not reject your servant in anger. You have always been my helper. Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me, O God of my salvation! | 9Hide not your face from me. Turn not your servant away in anger, O you who have been my help. Cast me not off; forsake me not, O God of my salvation! |
Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close. | 10For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the LORD will take me in. |
Teach me how to live, O LORD. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me. | 11Teach me your way, O LORD, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. |
Do not let me fall into their hands. For they accuse me of things I’ve never done; with every breath they threaten me with violence. | 12Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence. |
Yet I am confident I will see the LORD’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. | 13I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! |
Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD. | 14Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! |
