| 1One day Jesus said to his disciples, “There will always be temptations to sin, but what sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting! | 1And he said to his disciples, “Temptations to sin are sure to come, but woe to the one through whom they come! |
| 2 It would be better to be thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around your neck than to cause one of these little ones to fall into sin. | 2It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin. |
| 3 So watch yourselves! “If another believer sins, rebuke that person; then if there is repentance, forgive. | 3Pay attention to yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, |
| 4 Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive.” | 4and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.” |

| 7 “When a servant comes in from plowing or taking care of sheep, does his master say, ‘Come in and eat with me’? | 7“Will any one of you who has a servant plowing or keeping sheep say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and recline at table’? |
| 8 No, he says, ‘Prepare my meal, put on your apron, and serve me while I eat. Then you can eat later.’ | 8Will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare supper for me, and dress properly, and serve me while I eat and drink, and afterward you will eat and drink’? |
| 9 And does the master thank the servant for doing what he was told to do? Of course not. | 9Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded? |
| 10 In the same way, when you obey me you should say, ‘We are unworthy servants who have simply done our duty.’” Ten Healed of Leprosy | 10So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’” |
| 11As Jesus continued on toward Jerusalem, he reached the border between Galilee and Samaria. | 11On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. |
| 12As he entered a village there, ten men with leprosy stood at a distance, | 12And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance |
| 13crying out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” | 13and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” |
| 14He looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy. | 14When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. |
| 15One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!” | 15Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; |
| 16He fell to the ground at Jesus’ feet, thanking him for what he had done. This man was a Samaritan. | 16and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. |
| 17Jesus asked, “Didn’t I heal ten men? Where are the other nine? | 17Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? |
| 18 Has no one returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” | 18Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” |
| 19And Jesus said to the man, “Stand up and go. Your faith has healed you. ” The Coming of the Kingdom | 19And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.” |
| 20One day the Pharisees asked Jesus, “When will the Kingdom of God come?” Jesus replied, “The Kingdom of God can’t be detected by visible signs. | 20Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, |
| 21 You won’t be able to say, ‘Here it is!’ or ‘It’s over there!’ For the Kingdom of God is already among you. ” | 21nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.” |
| 22Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see the day when the Son of Man returns, but you won’t see it. | 22And he said to the disciples, “The days are coming when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. |
| 23 People will tell you, ‘Look, there is the Son of Man,’ or ‘Here he is,’ but don’t go out and follow them. | 23And they will say to you, ‘Look, there!’ or ‘Look, here!’ Do not go out or follow them. |
| 24 For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other, so it will be on the day when the Son of Man comes. | 24For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day. |
| 25 But first the Son of Man must suffer terribly and be rejected by this generation. | 25But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. |
| 26 “When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day. | 26Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. |
| 27 In those days, the people enjoyed banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat and the flood came and destroyed them all. | 27They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. |
| 28 “And the world will be as it was in the days of Lot. People went about their daily business—eating and drinking, buying and selling, farming and building— | 28Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot—they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, |
| 29 until the morning Lot left Sodom. Then fire and burning sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. | 29but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all— |
| 30 Yes, it will be ‘business as usual’ right up to the day when the Son of Man is revealed. | 30so will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed. |
| 31 On that day a person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack. A person out in the field must not return home. | 31On that day, let the one who is on the housetop, with his goods in the house, not come down to take them away, and likewise let the one who is in the field not turn back. |
| 32 Remember what happened to Lot’s wife! | 32Remember Lot’s wife. |
| 33 If you cling to your life, you will lose it, and if you let your life go, you will save it. | 33Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it. |
| 34 That night two people will be asleep in one bed; one will be taken, the other left. | 34I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed. One will be taken and the other left. |
| 35 Two women will be grinding flour together at the mill; one will be taken, the other left. ” | 35There will be two women grinding together. One will be taken and the other left.” |
| 37“Where will this happen, Lord?” the disciples asked. Jesus replied, “Just as the gathering of vultures shows there is a carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near.” | 37And they said to him, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, “Where the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.” |
