New Living Translation | Christian Standard Bible |
I come to you for protection, O LORD my God. Save me from my persecutors—rescue me! | 1LORD my God, I seek refuge in you; save me from all my pursuers and rescue me |
If you don’t, they will maul me like a lion, tearing me to pieces with no one to rescue me. | 2or they will tear me like a lion, ripping me apart with no one to rescue me. |
O LORD my God, if I have done wrong or am guilty of injustice, | 3LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is injustice on my hands, |
if I have betrayed a friend or plundered my enemy without cause, | 4if I have done harm to one at peace with me or have plundered my adversary without cause, |
then let my enemies capture me. Let them trample me into the ground and drag my honor in the dust. Interlude | 5may an enemy pursue and overtake me; may he trample me to the ground and leave my honor in the dust. Selah |
Arise, O LORD, in anger! Stand up against the fury of my enemies! Wake up, my God, and bring justice! | 6Rise up, LORD, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my adversaries; awake for me; you have ordained a judgment. |
Gather the nations before you. Rule over them from on high. | 7Let the assembly of peoples gather around you; take your seat on high over it. |
The LORD judges the nations. Declare me righteous, O LORD, for I am innocent, O Most High! | 8The LORD judges the peoples; vindicate me, LORD, according to my righteousness and my integrity. |
End the evil of those who are wicked, and defend the righteous. For you look deep within the mind and heart, O righteous God. | 9Let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous. The one who examines the thoughts and emotions is a righteous God. |
God is my shield, saving those whose hearts are true and right. | 10My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. |
God is an honest judge. He is angry with the wicked every day. | 11God is a righteous judge and a God who shows his wrath every day. |
If a person does not repent, God will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow. | 12If anyone does not repent, he will sharpen his sword; he has strung his bow and made it ready. |
He will prepare his deadly weapons and shoot his flaming arrows. | 13He has prepared his deadly weapons; he tips his arrows with fire. |
The wicked conceive evil; they are pregnant with trouble and give birth to lies. | 14See, the wicked one is pregnant with evil, conceives trouble, and gives birth to deceit. |
They dig a deep pit to trap others, then fall into it themselves. | 15He dug a pit and hollowed it out but fell into the hole he had made. |
The trouble they make for others backfires on them. The violence they plan falls on their own heads. | 16His trouble comes back on his own head; his own violence comes down on top of his head. |
I will thank the LORD because he is just; I will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High. | 17I will thank the LORD for his righteousness; I will sing about the name of the LORD Most High. |
