Psalm 51
NKJV Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionNew International Version
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions.1For the director of music. A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba. Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.2Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me.3For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.
Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight— That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge.4Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.5Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.6Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.7Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Make me hear joy and gladness, That the bones You have broken may rejoice.8Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities.9Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.10Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.11Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.12Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You.13Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you.
Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, The God of my salvation, And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.14Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, you who are God my Savior, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.
O Lord, open my lips, And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.15Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise.
For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering.16You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise.17My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.
Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion; Build the walls of Jerusalem.18May it please you to prosper Zion, to build up the walls of Jerusalem.
Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, With burnt offering and whole burnt offering; Then they shall offer bulls on Your altar.19Then you will delight in the sacrifices of the righteous, in burnt offerings offered whole; then bulls will be offered on your altar.
