To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. | 1To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. |
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. | 2Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. |
For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me. | 3For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. |
Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight— That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge. | 4Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. |
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. | 5Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. |
Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom. | 6Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. |
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. | 7Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. |
Make me hear joy and gladness, That the bones You have broken may rejoice. | 8Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. |
Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities. | 9Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. |
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. | 10Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. |
Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. | 11Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. |
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. | 12Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. |
Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You. | 13Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. |
Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, The God of my salvation, And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness. | 14Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. |
O Lord, open my lips, And my mouth shall show forth Your praise. | 15O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. |
For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. | 16For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. |
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise. | 17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. |
Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion; Build the walls of Jerusalem. | 18Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem. |
Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, With burnt offering and whole burnt offering; Then they shall offer bulls on Your altar. | 19Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar. |
