| 1Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? | 1If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord's people? |
| 2Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? | 2Or do you not know that the Lord's people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? |
| 3Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life? | 3Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! |
| 4If then you have judgments concerning things pertaining to this life, do you appoint those who are least esteemed by the church to judge? | 4Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church? |
| 5I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you, not even one, who will be able to judge between his brethren? | 5I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? |
| 6But brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers! | 6But instead, one brother takes another to court--and this in front of unbelievers! |
| 7Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated? | 7The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? |
| 8No, you yourselves do wrong and cheat, and you do these things to your brethren! | 8Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters. |

| 15Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? | 16Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” | 16Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." |
| 17But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. | 17But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. |
