New King James Version | King James Bible |
Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said: | 1Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said, |
“How long till you put an end to words? Gain understanding, and afterward we will speak. | 2How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak. |
Why are we counted as beasts, And regarded as stupid in your sight? | 3Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight? |
You who tear yourself in anger, Shall the earth be forsaken for you? Or shall the rock be removed from its place? | 4He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place? |
“The light of the wicked indeed goes out, And the flame of his fire does not shine. | 5Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. |
The light is dark in his tent, And his lamp beside him is put out. | 6The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him. |
The steps of his strength are shortened, And his own counsel casts him down. | 7The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down. |
For he is cast into a net by his own feet, And he walks into a snare. | 8For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a snare. |
The net takes him by the heel, And a snare lays hold of him. | 9The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him. |
A noose is hidden for him on the ground, And a trap for him in the road. | 10The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way. |
Terrors frighten him on every side, And drive him to his feet. | 11Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet. |
His strength is starved, And destruction is ready at his side. | 12His strength shall be hungerbitten, and destruction shall be ready at his side. |
It devours patches of his skin; The firstborn of death devours his limbs. | 13It shall devour the strength of his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength. |
He is uprooted from the shelter of his tent, And they parade him before the king of terrors. | 14His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors. |
They dwell in his tent who are none of his; Brimstone is scattered on his dwelling. | 15It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation. |
His roots are dried out below, And his branch withers above. | 16His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off. |
The memory of him perishes from the earth, And he has no name among the renowned. | 17His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street. |
He is driven from light into darkness, And chased out of the world. | 18He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world. |
He has neither son nor posterity among his people, Nor any remaining in his dwellings. | 19He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings. |
Those in the west are astonished at his day, As those in the east are frightened. | 20They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted. |
Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, And this is the place of him who does not know God.” | 21Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God. |
