New King James Version | Christian Standard Bible |
“Hear this, O priests! Take heed, O house of Israel! Give ear, O house of the king! For yours is the judgment, Because you have been a snare to Mizpah And a net spread on Tabor. | 1Hear this, priests! Pay attention, house of Israel! Listen, royal house! For the judgment applies to you because you have been a snare at Mizpah and a net spread out on Tabor. |
The revolters are deeply involved in slaughter, Though I rebuke them all. | 2Rebels are deeply involved in slaughter; I will be a punishment for all of them. |
I know Ephraim, And Israel is not hidden from Me; For now, O Ephraim, you commit harlotry; Israel is defiled. | 3I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from me. For now, Ephraim, you have acted promiscuously; Israel is defiled. |
“They do not direct their deeds Toward turning to their God, For the spirit of harlotry is in their midst, And they do not know the LORD. | 4Their actions do not allow them to return to their God, for a spirit of promiscuity is among them, and they do not know the LORD. |
The pride of Israel testifies to his face; Therefore Israel and Ephraim stumble in their iniquity; Judah also stumbles with them. | 5Israel's arrogance testifies against them. Both Israel and Ephraim stumble because of their iniquity; even Judah will stumble with them. |
“With their flocks and herds They shall go to seek the LORD, But they will not find Him; He has withdrawn Himself from them. | 6They go with their flocks and herds to seek the LORD but do not find him; he has withdrawn from them. |
They have dealt treacherously with the LORD, For they have begotten pagan children. Now a New Moon shall devour them and their heritage. | 7They betrayed the LORD; indeed, they gave birth to illegitimate children. Now the New Moon will devour them along with their fields. |
“Blow the ram’s horn in Gibeah, The trumpet in Ramah! Cry aloud at Beth Aven, ‘Look behind you, O Benjamin!’ | 8Blow the horn in Gibeah, the trumpet in Ramah; raise the war cry in Beth-aven: Look behind you, Benjamin! |
Ephraim shall be desolate in the day of rebuke; Among the tribes of Israel I make known what is sure. | 9Ephraim will become a desolation on the day of punishment; I announce what is certain among the tribes of Israel. |
“The princes of Judah are like those who remove a landmark; I will pour out My wrath on them like water. | 10The princes of Judah are like those who move boundary markers; I will pour out my fury on them like water. |
Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, Because he willingly walked by human precept. | 11Ephraim is oppressed, crushed in judgment, for he is determined to follow what is worthless. |
Therefore I will be to Ephraim like a moth, And to the house of Judah like rottenness. | 12So I am like rot to Ephraim and like decay to the house of Judah. |
“When Ephraim saw his sickness, And Judah saw his wound, Then Ephraim went to Assyria And sent to King Jareb; Yet he cannot cure you, Nor heal you of your wound. | 13When Ephraim saw his sickness and Judah his wound, Ephraim went to Assyria and sent a delegation to the great king. But he cannot cure you or heal your wound. |
For I will be like a lion to Ephraim, And like a young lion to the house of Judah. I, even I, will tear them and go away; I will take them away, and no one shall rescue. | 14For I am like a lion to Ephraim and like a young lion to the house of Judah. Yes, I will tear them to pieces and depart. I will carry them off, and no one can rescue them. |
I will return again to My place Till they acknowledge their offense. Then they will seek My face; In their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.” | 15I will depart and return to my place until they recognize their guilt and seek my face; they will search for me in their distress. |
