New King James Version | Berean Study Bible |
Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. | 1Therefore, while the promise of entering His rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be deemed to have fallen short of it. |
For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. | 2For we also received the good news just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, since they did not share the faith of those who comprehended it. |
For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: “So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ” although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. | 3Now we who have believed enter that rest. As for the others, it is just as God has said: “So I swore on oath in My anger, ‘They shall never enter My rest.’ ” And yet His works have been finished since the foundation of the world. |
For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; | 4For somewhere He has spoken about the seventh day in this manner: “And on the seventh day God rested from all His works.” |
and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.” | 5And again, as He says in the passage above: “They shall never enter My rest.” |
Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, | 6Since, then, it remains for some to enter His rest, and since those who formerly heard the good news did not enter because of their disobedience, |
again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.” | 7God again designated a certain day as “Today,” when a long time later He spoke through David as was just stated: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” |
For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. | 8For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. |
There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. | 9There remains, then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God. |
For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. | 10For whoever enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from His. |
Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. | 11Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same pattern of disobedience. |
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. | 12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart. |
And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. | 13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. |
Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. | 14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we profess. |
For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. | 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who was tempted in every way that we are, yet was without sin. |
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. | 16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. |
