2See how your enemies growl, how your foes rear their heads. | 2For look, your enemies are making a commotion; those who hate you are hostile. |
3With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. | 3They carefully plot against your people, and make plans to harm the ones you cherish. |
4"Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel's name is remembered no more." | 4They say, "Come on, let's annihilate them so they are no longer a nation! Then the name of Israel will be remembered no more." |
5With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you-- | 5Yes, they devise a unified strategy; they form an alliance against you. |
6the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, | 6It includes the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites, |
7Byblos, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre. | 7Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, Philistia and the inhabitants of Tyre. |
8Even Assyria has joined them to reinforce Lot's descendants. | 8Even Assyria has allied with them, lending its strength to the descendants of Lot. (Selah) |

12who said, "Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God." | 12who said, "Let's take over the pastures of God!" |
13Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind. | 13O my God, make them like dead thistles, like dead weeds blown away by the wind! |
14As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze, | 14Like the fire that burns down the forest, or the flames that consume the mountainsides, |
15so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. | 15chase them with your gale winds, and terrify them with your windstorm. |
16Cover their faces with shame, LORD, so that they will seek your name. | 16Cover their faces with shame, so they might seek you, O LORD. |
17May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace. | 17May they be humiliated and continually terrified! May they die in shame! |
18Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD-- that you alone are the Most High over all the earth. | 18Then they will know that you alone are the LORD, the sovereign king over all the earth. |
