For the director of music. To the tune of "Lilies." Of the Sons of Korah. A maskil. A wedding song. My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer. | 1For the choir director; according to the Shoshannim. A Maskil of the sons of Korah. A Song of Love. My heart overflows with a good theme; I address my verses to the King; My tongue is the pen of a ready writer. |
You are the most excellent of men and your lips have been anointed with grace, since God has blessed you forever. | 2You are fairer than the sons of men; Grace is poured upon Your lips; Therefore God has blessed You forever. |
Gird your sword on your side, you mighty one; clothe yourself with splendor and majesty. | 3Gird Your sword on Your thigh, O Mighty One, In Your splendor and Your majesty! |
In your majesty ride forth victoriously in the cause of truth, humility and justice; let your right hand achieve awesome deeds. | 4And in Your majesty ride on victoriously, For the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness; Let Your right hand teach You awesome things. |
Let your sharp arrows pierce the hearts of the king's enemies; let the nations fall beneath your feet. | 5Your arrows are sharp; The peoples fall under You; Your arrows are in the heart of the King's enemies. |
Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. | 6Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom. |
You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. | 7You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of joy above Your fellows. |
All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; from palaces adorned with ivory the music of the strings makes you glad. | 8All Your garments are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; Out of ivory palaces stringed instruments have made You glad. |
Daughters of kings are among your honored women; at your right hand is the royal bride in gold of Ophir. | 9Kings' daughters are among Your noble ladies; At Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir. |
Listen, daughter, and pay careful attention: Forget your people and your father's house. | 10Listen, O daughter, give attention and incline your ear: Forget your people and your father's house; |
Let the king be enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord. | 11Then the King will desire your beauty. Because He is your Lord, bow down to Him. |
The city of Tyre will come with a gift, people of wealth will seek your favor. | 12The daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; The rich among the people will seek your favor. |
All glorious is the princess within her chamber; her gown is interwoven with gold. | 13The King's daughter is all glorious within; Her clothing is interwoven with gold. |
In embroidered garments she is led to the king; her virgin companions follow her-- those brought to be with her. | 14She will be led to the King in embroidered work; The virgins, her companions who follow her, Will be brought to You. |
Led in with joy and gladness, they enter the palace of the king. | 15They will be led forth with gladness and rejoicing; They will enter into the King's palace. |
Your sons will take the place of your fathers; you will make them princes throughout the land. | 16In place of your fathers will be your sons; You shall make them princes in all the earth. |
I will perpetuate your memory through all generations; therefore the nations will praise you for ever and ever. | 17I will cause Your name to be remembered in all generations; Therefore the peoples will give You thanks forever and ever. |
