New International Version | King James Bible |
For the director of music. To the tune of "Lilies." Of the Sons of Korah. A maskil. A wedding song. My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer. | 1To the chief Musician upon Shoshannim, for the sons of Korah, Maschil, A Song of loves. My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer. |
You are the most excellent of men and your lips have been anointed with grace, since God has blessed you forever. | 2Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever. |
Gird your sword on your side, you mighty one; clothe yourself with splendor and majesty. | 3Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty. |
In your majesty ride forth victoriously in the cause of truth, humility and justice; let your right hand achieve awesome deeds. | 4And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things. |
Let your sharp arrows pierce the hearts of the king's enemies; let the nations fall beneath your feet. | 5Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under thee. |
Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. | 6Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre. |
You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. | 7Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. |
All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; from palaces adorned with ivory the music of the strings makes you glad. | 8All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad. |
Daughters of kings are among your honored women; at your right hand is the royal bride in gold of Ophir. | 9Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir. |
Listen, daughter, and pay careful attention: Forget your people and your father's house. | 10Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house; |
Let the king be enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord. | 11So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him. |
The city of Tyre will come with a gift, people of wealth will seek your favor. | 12And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour. |
All glorious is the princess within her chamber; her gown is interwoven with gold. | 13The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold. |
In embroidered garments she is led to the king; her virgin companions follow her-- those brought to be with her. | 14She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee. |
Led in with joy and gladness, they enter the palace of the king. | 15With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king's palace. |
Your sons will take the place of your fathers; you will make them princes throughout the land. | 16Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth. |
I will perpetuate your memory through all generations; therefore the nations will praise you for ever and ever. | 17I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever. |
