NET Bible | New Living Translation |
In you, O LORD, I have taken shelter! Never let me be humiliated! | 1O LORD, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. |
Vindicate me by rescuing me! Listen to me! Deliver me! | 2Save me and rescue me, for you do what is right. Turn your ear to listen to me, and set me free. |
Be my protector and refuge, a stronghold where I can be safe! For you are my high ridge and my stronghold. | 3Be my rock of safety where I can always hide. Give the order to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. |
My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked, from the hand of the cruel oppressor! | 4My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked, from the clutches of cruel oppressors. |
For you give me confidence, O Lord; O LORD, I have trusted in you since I was young. | 5O Lord, you alone are my hope. I’ve trusted you, O LORD, from childhood. |
I have leaned on you since birth; you pulled me from my mother's womb. I praise you continually. | 6Yes, you have been with me from birth; from my mother’s womb you have cared for me. No wonder I am always praising you! |
Many are appalled when they see me, but you are my secure shelter. | 7My life is an example to many, because you have been my strength and protection. |
I praise you constantly and speak of your splendor all day long. | 8That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long. |
Do not reject me in my old age! When my strength fails, do not abandon me! | 9And now, in my old age, don’t set me aside. Don’t abandon me when my strength is failing. |
For my enemies talk about me; those waiting for a chance to kill me plot my demise. | 10For my enemies are whispering against me. They are plotting together to kill me. |
They say, "God has abandoned him. Run and seize him, for there is no one who will rescue him!" | 11They say, “God has abandoned him. Let’s go and get him, for no one will help him now.” |
O God, do not remain far away from me! My God, hurry and help me! | 12O God, don’t stay away. My God, please hurry to help me. |
May my accusers be humiliated and defeated! May those who want to harm me be covered with scorn and disgrace! | 13Bring disgrace and destruction on my accusers. Humiliate and shame those who want to harm me. |
As for me, I will wait continually, and will continue to praise you. | 14But I will keep on hoping for your help; I will praise you more and more. |
I will tell about your justice, and all day long proclaim your salvation, though I cannot fathom its full extent. | 15I will tell everyone about your righteousness. All day long I will proclaim your saving power, though I am not skilled with words. |
I will come and tell about the mighty acts of the sovereign LORD. I will proclaim your justice--yours alone. | 16I will praise your mighty deeds, O Sovereign LORD. I will tell everyone that you alone are just. |
O God, you have taught me since I was young, and I am still declaring your amazing deeds. | 17O God, you have taught me from my earliest childhood, and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things you do. |
Even when I am old and gray, O God, do not abandon me, until I tell the next generation about your strength, and those coming after me about your power. | 18Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me. |
Your justice, O God, extends to the skies above; you have done great things. O God, who can compare to you? | 19Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the highest heavens. You have done such wonderful things. Who can compare with you, O God? |
Though you have allowed me to experience much trouble and distress, revive me once again! Bring me up once again from the depths of the earth! | 20You have allowed me to suffer much hardship, but you will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth. |
Raise me to a position of great honor! Turn and comfort me! | 21You will restore me to even greater honor and comfort me once again. |
I will express my thanks to you with a stringed instrument, praising your faithfulness, O my God! I will sing praises to you accompanied by a harp, O Holy One of Israel! | 22Then I will praise you with music on the harp, because you are faithful to your promises, O my God. I will sing praises to you with a lyre, O Holy One of Israel. |
My lips will shout for joy! Yes, I will sing your praises! I will praise you when you rescue me! | 23I will shout for joy and sing your praises, for you have ransomed me. |
All day long my tongue will also tell about your justice, for those who want to harm me will be embarrassed and ashamed. | 24I will tell about your righteous deeds all day long, for everyone who tried to hurt me has been shamed and humiliated. |
