| 1For Solomon. O God, grant the king the ability to make just decisions! Grant the king's son the ability to make fair decisions! | 1Give your love of justice to the king, O God, and righteousness to the king’s son. |
| 2Then he will judge your people fairly, and your oppressed ones equitably. | 2Help him judge your people in the right way; let the poor always be treated fairly. |
| 3The mountains will bring news of peace to the people, and the hills will announce justice. | 3May the mountains yield prosperity for all, and may the hills be fruitful. |
| 4He will defend the oppressed among the people; he will deliver the children of the poor and crush the oppressor. | 4Help him to defend the poor, to rescue the children of the needy, and to crush their oppressors. |
| 5People will fear you as long as the sun and moon remain in the sky, for generation after generation. | 5May they fear you as long as the sun shines, as long as the moon remains in the sky. Yes, forever! |
| 6He will descend like rain on the mown grass, like showers that drench the earth. | 6May the king’s rule be refreshing like spring rain on freshly cut grass, like the showers that water the earth. |
