| 1Now when the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. | 1One day the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, demanding that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority. |
| 2He said, "When evening comes you say, 'It will be fair weather, because the sky is red,' | 2He replied, “You know the saying, ‘Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow; |
| 3and in the morning, 'It will be stormy today, because the sky is red and darkening.' You know how to judge correctly the appearance of the sky, but you cannot evaluate the signs of the times. | 3 red sky in the morning means foul weather all day.’ You know how to interpret the weather signs in the sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times! |
| 4A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah." | 5When the disciples went to the other side, they forgot to take bread. | 5Later, after they crossed to the other side of the lake, the disciples discovered they had forgotten to bring any bread. |
