New American Standard Bible 1995NET Bible
A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, But a just weight is His delight.1The LORD abhors dishonest scales, but an accurate weight is his delight.
When pride comes, then comes dishonor, But with the humble is wisdom.2When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the crookedness of the treacherous will destroy them.3The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the unfaithful destroys them.
Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death.4Wealth does not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from mortal danger.
The righteousness of the blameless will smooth his way, But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.5The righteousness of the blameless will make straight their way, but the wicked person will fall by his own wickedness.
The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, But the treacherous will be caught by their own greed.6The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, but the faithless will be captured by their own desires.
When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, And the hope of strong men perishes.7When a wicked person dies, his expectation perishes, and the hope of his strength perishes.
The righteous is delivered from trouble, But the wicked takes his place.8The righteous person is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked turns up in his stead.
With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.9With his speech the godless person destroys his neighbor, but by knowledge the righteous will be delivered.
When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, And when the wicked perish, there is joyful shouting.10When the righteous do well, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there is joy.
By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, But by the mouth of the wicked it is torn down.11A city is exalted by the blessing provided from the upright, but it is destroyed by the counsel of the wicked.
He who despises his neighbor lacks sense, But a man of understanding keeps silent.12The one who denounces his neighbor lacks wisdom, but the one who has discernment keeps silent.
He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets, But he who is trustworthy conceals a matter.13The one who goes about slandering others reveals secrets, but the one who is trustworthy conceals a matter.
Where there is no guidance the people fall, But in abundance of counselors there is victory.14When there is no guidance a nation falls, but there is success in the abundance of counselors.
He who is guarantor for a stranger will surely suffer for it, But he who hates being a guarantor is secure.15The one who puts up security for a stranger will surely have trouble, but whoever avoids shaking hands will be secure.
A gracious woman attains honor, And ruthless men attain riches.16A generous woman gains honor, and ruthless men seize wealth.
The merciful man does himself good, But the cruel man does himself harm.17A kind person benefits himself, but a cruel person brings himself trouble.
The wicked earns deceptive wages, But he who sows righteousness gets a true reward.18The wicked person earns deceitful wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a genuine reward.
He who is steadfast in righteousness will attain to life, And he who pursues evil will bring about his own death.19True righteousness leads to life, but the one who pursues evil pursues it to his own death.
The perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD, But the blameless in their walk are His delight.20The LORD abhors those who are perverse in heart, but those who are blameless in their ways are his delight.
Assuredly, the evil man will not go unpunished, But the descendants of the righteous will be delivered.21Be assured that the evil person will certainly be punished, but the descendants of the righteous will not suffer unjust judgment.
As a ring of gold in a swine's snout So is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion.22Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman who rejects discretion.
The desire of the righteous is only good, But the expectation of the wicked is wrath.23What the righteous desire leads only to good, but what the wicked hope for leads to wrath.
There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, And there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want.24One person is generous and yet grows more wealthy, but another withholds more than he should and comes to poverty.
The generous man will be prosperous, And he who waters will himself be watered.25A generous person will be enriched, and the one who provides water for others will himself be satisfied.
He who withholds grain, the people will curse him, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it.26People will curse the one who withholds grain, but they will praise the one who sells it.
He who diligently seeks good seeks favor, But he who seeks evil, evil will come to him.27The one who diligently seeks good seeks favor, but the one who searches for evil--it will come to him.
He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like the green leaf.28The one who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.
He who troubles his own house will inherit wind, And the foolish will be servant to the wisehearted.29The one who troubles his family will inherit nothing, and the fool will be a servant to the wise person.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who is wise wins souls.30The fruit of the righteous is like a tree producing life, and the one who wins souls is wise.
If the righteous will be rewarded in the earth, How much more the wicked and the sinner!31If the righteous are recompensed on earth, how much more the wicked sinner!
