A Song, a Psalm of Asaph. O God, do not remain quiet; Do not be silent and, O God, do not be still. | 1A song. A Psalm of Asaph. O God, be not silent; be not speechless; be not still, O God. |
For behold, Your enemies make an uproar, And those who hate You have exalted themselves. | 2See how Your enemies rage, how Your foes have reared their heads. |
They make shrewd plans against Your people, And conspire together against Your treasured ones. | 3With cunning they scheme against Your people and conspire against those You cherish, |
They have said, "Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation, That the name of Israel be remembered no more." | 4saying, “Come, let us erase them as a nation; may the name of Israel be remembered no more.” |
For they have conspired together with one mind; Against You they make a covenant: | 5For with one mind they plot together, they form an alliance against You— |
The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites; | 6the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, |
Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; | 7of Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, of Philistia with the people of Tyre. |
Assyria also has joined with them; They have become a help to the children of Lot. Selah. | 8Even Assyria has joined them, lending strength to the sons of Lot. Selah |
Deal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera and Jabin at the torrent of Kishon, | 9Do to them as You did to Midian, as to Sisera and Jabin at the River Kishon, |
Who were destroyed at En-dor, Who became as dung for the ground. | 10who perished at Endor and became like dung on the ground. |
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb And all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, | 11Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, |
Who said, "Let us possess for ourselves The pastures of God." | 12who said, “Let us possess for ourselves the pastures of God.” |
O my God, make them like the whirling dust, Like chaff before the wind. | 13Make them like tumbleweed, O my God, like chaff before the wind. |
Like fire that burns the forest And like a flame that sets the mountains on fire, | 14As fire consumes a forest, as a flame sets the mountains ablaze, |
So pursue them with Your tempest And terrify them with Your storm. | 15so pursue them with Your tempest, and terrify them with Your storm. |
Fill their faces with dishonor, That they may seek Your name, O LORD. | 16Cover their faces with shame, that they may seek Your name, O LORD. |
Let them be ashamed and dismayed forever, And let them be humiliated and perish, | 17May they be ever ashamed and terrified; may they perish in disgrace. |
That they may know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, Are the Most High over all the earth. | 18May they know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, are Most High over all the earth. |
