Psalm 51
KJV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
King James BibleNew Living Translation
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.1Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins.
Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.2Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin.
For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.3For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night.
Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.4Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just.
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.5For I was born a sinner— yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.6But you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom even there.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.7Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.8Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me— now let me rejoice.
Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.9Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt.
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.10Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.
Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.11Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.12Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.
Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.13Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you.
Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.14Forgive me for shedding blood, O God who saves; then I will joyfully sing of your forgiveness.
O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.15Unseal my lips, O Lord, that my mouth may praise you.
For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.16You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one. You do not want a burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.17The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.
Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.18Look with favor on Zion and help her; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.19Then you will be pleased with sacrifices offered in the right spirit— with burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings. Then bulls will again be sacrificed on your altar.
