To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. | 1For the choir director. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions. |
Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. | 2Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity And cleanse me from my sin. |
For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. | 3For I know my transgressions, And my sin is ever before me. |
Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. | 4Against You, You only, I have sinned And done what is evil in Your sight, So that You are justified when You speak And blameless when You judge. |
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. | 5Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. |
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. | 6Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, And in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom. |
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. | 7Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. |
Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. | 8Make me to hear joy and gladness, Let the bones which You have broken rejoice. |
Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. | 9Hide Your face from my sins And blot out all my iniquities. |
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. | 10Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. |
Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. | 11Do not cast me away from Your presence And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. |
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. | 12Restore to me the joy of Your salvation And sustain me with a willing spirit. |
Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. | 13Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners will be converted to You. |
Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. | 14Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation; Then my tongue will joyfully sing of Your righteousness. |
O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. | 15O Lord, open my lips, That my mouth may declare Your praise. |
For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. | 16For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; You are not pleased with burnt offering. |
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. | 17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. |
Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem. | 18By Your favor do good to Zion; Build the walls of Jerusalem. |
Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar. | 19Then You will delight in righteous sacrifices, In burnt offering and whole burnt offering; Then young bulls will be offered on Your altar. |
