King James Bible | NET Bible |
Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. | 1You godly ones, shout for joy because of the LORD! It is appropriate for the morally upright to offer him praise. |
Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. | 2Give thanks to the LORD with the harp! Sing to him to the accompaniment of a ten-stringed instrument! |
Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise. | 3Sing to him a new song! Play skillfully as you shout out your praises to him! |
For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth. | 4For the LORD's decrees are just, and everything he does is fair. |
He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. | 5The LORD promotes equity and justice; the LORD's faithfulness extends throughout the earth. |
By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. | 6By the LORD's decree the heavens were made; by a mere word from his mouth all the stars in the sky were created. |
He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. | 7He piles up the water of the sea; he puts the oceans in storehouses. |
Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. | 8Let the whole earth fear the LORD! Let all who live in the world stand in awe of him! |
For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast. | 9For he spoke, and it came into existence, he issued the decree, and it stood firm. |
The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect. | 10The LORD frustrates the decisions of the nations; he nullifies the plans of the peoples. |
The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations. | 11The LORD's decisions stand forever; his plans abide throughout the ages. |
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. | 12How blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen to be his special possession. |
The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. | 13The LORD watches from heaven; he sees all people. |
From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. | 14From the place where he lives he looks carefully at all the earth's inhabitants. |
He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works. | 15He is the one who forms every human heart, and takes note of all their actions. |
There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. | 16No king is delivered by his vast army; a warrior is not saved by his great might. |
An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength. | 17A horse disappoints those who trust in it for victory; despite its great strength, it cannot deliver. |
Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; | 18Look, the LORD takes notice of his loyal followers, those who wait for him to demonstrate his faithfulness |
To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. | 19by saving their lives from death and sustaining them during times of famine. |
Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield. | 20We wait for the LORD; he is our deliverer and shield. |
For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name. | 21For our hearts rejoice in him, for we trust in his holy name. |
Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee. | 22May we experience your faithfulness, O LORD, for we wait for you. |
