King James Bible | English Standard Version |
Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. | 1Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. |
Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. | 2Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! |
Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise. | 3Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts. |
For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth. | 4For the word of the LORD is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. |
He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. | 5He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD. |
By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. | 6By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. |
He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. | 7He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. |
Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. | 8Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! |
For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast. | 9For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. |
The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect. | 10The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. |
The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations. | 11The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations. |
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. | 12Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! |
The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. | 13The LORD looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; |
From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. | 14from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, |
He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works. | 15he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds. |
There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. | 16The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. |
An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength. | 17The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue. |
Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; | 18Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, |
To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. | 19that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine. |
Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield. | 20Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. |
For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name. | 21For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. |
Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee. | 22Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you. |
