| 1And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand. | 1Now He entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a paralyzed hand. |
| 2And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him. | 2In order to accuse Him, they were watching Him closely to see whether He would heal him on the Sabbath. |
| 3And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth. | 3He told the man with the paralyzed hand, "Stand before us." |
| 4And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace. | 4Then He said to them, "Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do what is good or to do what is evil, to save life or to kill?" But they were silent. |
| 5And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other. | 5After looking around at them with anger and sorrow at the hardness of their hearts, He told the man, "Stretch out your hand." So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored. |
| 6And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him. | 6Immediately the Pharisees went out and started plotting with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him. |
| 7But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea, | 7Jesus departed with His disciples to the sea, and a large crowd followed from Galilee, Judea, |
| 8And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him. | 8Jerusalem, Idumea, beyond the Jordan, and around Tyre and Sidon. The large crowd came to Him because they heard about everything He was doing. |
| 9And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him. | 9Then He told His disciples to have a small boat ready for Him, so the crowd would not crush Him. |
| 10For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues. | 10Since He had healed many, all who had diseases were pressing toward Him to touch Him. |
| 11And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God. | 11Whenever the unclean spirits saw Him, those possessed fell down before Him and cried out, "You are the Son of God!" |
| 12And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known. | 12And He would strongly warn them not to make Him known. |
| 13And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him. | 13Then He went up the mountain and summoned those He wanted, and they came to Him. |
| 14And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, | 14He also appointed 12--He also named them apostles--to be with Him, to send them out to preach, |
| 15And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils: | 15and to have authority to drive out demons. |
| 16And Simon he surnamed Peter; | 16He appointed the Twelve: To Simon, He gave the name Peter; |
| 17And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder: | 17and to James the son of Zebedee, and to his brother John, He gave the name "Boanerges" (that is, "Sons of Thunder"); |
| 18And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite, | 18Andrew; Philip and Bartholomew; Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot, |
| 19And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house. | 19and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. |
| 20And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. | 20Then He went home, and the crowd gathered again so that they were not even able to eat. |
| 21And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself. | 21When His family heard this, they set out to restrain Him, because they said, "He's out of His mind." |
| 22And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils. | 22The scribes who had come down from Jerusalem said, "He has Beelzebul in Him!" and, "He drives out demons by the ruler of the demons!" |
| 23And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? | 23So He summoned them and spoke to them in parables: "How can Satan drive out Satan? |
| 24And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. | 24If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. |
| 25And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. | 25If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. |
| 26And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. | 26And if Satan rebels against himself and is divided, he cannot stand but is finished! |
| 27No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. | 27"On the other hand, no one can enter a strong man's house and rob his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he will rob his house. |
| 28Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: | 28I assure you: People will be forgiven for all sins and whatever blasphemies they may blaspheme. |
| 29But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: | 29But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin" -- |
| 30Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit. | 30because they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit." |
| 31There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him. | 31Then His mother and His brothers came, and standing outside, they sent word to Him and called Him. |
| 32And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. | 32A crowd was sitting around Him and told Him, "Look, Your mother, Your brothers, and Your sisters are outside asking for You." |
| 33And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? | 33He replied to them, "Who are My mother and My brothers?" |
| 34And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! | 34And looking about at those who were sitting in a circle around Him, He said, "Here are My mother and My brothers! |
| 35For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother. | 35Whoever does the will of God is My brother and sister and mother." |
