It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. | 1It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and the kind of sexual immorality that is not even tolerated among the Gentiles--a man is sleeping with his father's wife. |
And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. | 2And you are arrogant! Shouldn't you be filled with grief and remove from your congregation the one who did this? |
For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, | 3Even though I am absent in the body, I am present in spirit. As one who is present with you in this way, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who has been doing such a thing. |
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, | 4When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus, and I am with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus, |
To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. | 5hand that one over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord. |
Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? | 6Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little leaven leavens the whole batch of dough? |
Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: | 7Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new unleavened batch, as indeed you are. For Christ our Passover lamb has been sacrificed. |
Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. | 8Therefore, let us observe the feast, not with old leaven or with the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. |
I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: | 9I wrote to you in a letter not to associate with sexually immoral people. |
Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. | 10I did not mean the immoral people of this world or the greedy and swindlers or idolaters; otherwise you would have to leave the world. |
But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. | 11But actually, I wrote you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister and is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person. |
For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? | 12For what business is it of mine to judge outsiders? Don't you judge those who are inside? |
But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person. | 13God judges outsiders. Remove the evil person from among you. |
