It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.1It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is intolerable even among pagans: A man has his father’s wife.
And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.2And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have been stricken with grief and have removed from your fellowship the man who did this?
For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,3Although I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit, and I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present.
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,4When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, along with the power of the Lord Jesus,
To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.5hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the Day of the Lord.
Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?6Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven works through the whole batch of dough?
Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:7Get rid of the old leaven, that you may be a new unleavened batch, as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.8Therefore let us keep the feast, not with the old bread, leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and of truth.
I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:9I wrote you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people.
Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.10I was not including the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world.
But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.11But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a verbal abuser, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.
For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?12What business of mine is it to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?
But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.13God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.”
