International Standard Version | New Living Translation |
As an antelope pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, God. | 1As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. |
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When may I come and appear in God's presence? | 2I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? |
My tears have been my food day and night, while people keep asking me all day long, "Where is your God?" | 3Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, “Where is this God of yours?” |
These things I will recall as I pour out my troubles within me: I used to go with the crowd in a procession to the house of God, accompanied with shouts of joy and thanksgiving. | 4My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration! |
Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, for once again I will praise him, since his presence saves me. | 5Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and |
My God, my soul feels depressed within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of Jordan, from the heights of Hermon, even from the foothills. | 6my God! Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you— even from distant Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan, from the land of Mount Mizar. |
Deep waters call out to what is deeper still; at the roar of your waterfalls all your breakers and your waves swirled over me. | 7I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me. |
By day the LORD will command his gracious love, and by night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life. | 8But each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life. |
I will ask God, my Rock, "Why have you forsaken me? Why do I go around mourning under the enemy's oppression?" | 9“O God my rock,” I cry, “why have you forgotten me? Why must I wander around in grief, oppressed by my enemies?” |
Like the shattering of my bones are the taunts of my oppressors, saying to me all day long, "Where is your God?" | 10Their taunts break my bones. They scoff, “Where is this God of yours?” |
Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, for once again I will praise him, since his presence saves me and he is my God. | 11Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God! |
