As an antelope pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, God. | 1To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah. As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. |
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When may I come and appear in God's presence? | 2My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? |
My tears have been my food day and night, while people keep asking me all day long, "Where is your God?" | 3My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? |
These things I will recall as I pour out my troubles within me: I used to go with the crowd in a procession to the house of God, accompanied with shouts of joy and thanksgiving. | 4When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. |
Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, for once again I will praise him, since his presence saves me. | 5Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. |
My God, my soul feels depressed within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of Jordan, from the heights of Hermon, even from the foothills. | 6O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. |
Deep waters call out to what is deeper still; at the roar of your waterfalls all your breakers and your waves swirled over me. | 7Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. |
By day the LORD will command his gracious love, and by night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life. | 8Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life. |
I will ask God, my Rock, "Why have you forsaken me? Why do I go around mourning under the enemy's oppression?" | 9I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? |
Like the shattering of my bones are the taunts of my oppressors, saying to me all day long, "Where is your God?" | 10As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God? |
Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, for once again I will praise him, since his presence saves me and he is my God. | 11Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God. |
