Psalm 38
ISV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNew Living Translation
LORD! Do not rebuke me in your anger; do not correct me in your wrath,1O LORD, don’t rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your rage!
because your arrows have sunk deep into me, and your hand has come down hard on me.2Your arrows have struck deep, and your blows are crushing me.
My body is unhealthy due to your anger, and my bones have no rest due to my sin.3Because of your anger, my whole body is sick; my health is broken because of my sins.
My iniquities loom over my head; like a cumbersome burden, they are too heavy for me.4My guilt overwhelms me— it is a burden too heavy to bear.
My wounds have putrefied and festered because of my foolishness.5My wounds fester and stink because of my foolish sins.
I am bent over and walk about greatly bowed down; all day long I go around mourning.6I am bent over and racked with pain. All day long I walk around filled with grief.
My insides are burning and my body is unhealthy.7A raging fever burns within me, and my health is broken.
I am weak and utterly crushed; I cry out in distress because of my heart's anguish.8I am exhausted and completely crushed. My groans come from an anguished heart.
Lord, all my longings are before you, and my groaning is not hidden from you.9You know what I long for, Lord; you hear my every sigh.
My heart pounds, my strength fails me, even the gleam in my eye is gone.10My heart beats wildly, my strength fails, and I am going blind.
As for my friends and my neighbors, they stand aloof from my distress; even my close relatives stand at a distance.11My loved ones and friends stay away, fearing my disease. Even my own family stands at a distance.
Those who seek my life lay snares for me; those who seek to do me harm brag all day long about their wicked planning.12Meanwhile, my enemies lay traps to kill me. Those who wish me harm make plans to ruin me. All day long they plan their treachery.
I am like the deaf, who cannot hear, and like the mute, who cannot open his mouth.13But I am deaf to all their threats. I am silent before them as one who cannot speak.
Indeed, I have become like a man who hears nothing, and in whose mouth there is no rebuke.14I choose to hear nothing, and I make no reply.
Because I have placed my hope in you, LORD, you will answer, Lord, my God.15For I am waiting for you, O LORD. You must answer for me, O Lord my God.
For I said, "Do not let them gloat over me, as they congratulate themselves when my foot slips."16I prayed, “Don’t let my enemies gloat over me or rejoice at my downfall.”
Indeed, I am being set up for a fall, and I am continuously reminded of my pain.17I am on the verge of collapse, facing constant pain.
I confess my iniquity, and my sin troubles me.18But I confess my sins; I am deeply sorry for what I have done.
But my enemies are alive and well; those who hate me for no reason are numerous. 19I have many aggressive enemies; they hate me without reason.
They reward my good with evil, opposing me because I seek to do good. 20They repay me evil for good and oppose me for pursuing good.
Don't forsake me, LORD. My God, do not be so distant from me.21Do not abandon me, O LORD. Do not stand at a distance, my God.
Come quickly and help me, Lord, my deliverer.22Come quickly to help me, O Lord my savior.
