LORD, listen to my words, consider my groaning. | 1For the music director, to be accompanied by wind instruments; a psalm of David. Listen to what I say, LORD! Carefully consider my complaint! |
Pay attention to my cry for help, my king and my God, for unto you will I pray. | 2Pay attention to my cry for help, my king and my God, for I am praying to you! |
LORD, in the morning you will hear my voice; in the morning I will pray to you, and I will watch for your answer. | 3LORD, in the morning you will hear me; in the morning I will present my case to you and then wait expectantly for an answer. |
Indeed, you aren't a God who delights in wickedness; evil will never dwell with you. | 4Certainly you are not a God who approves of evil; evil people cannot dwell with you. |
Boastful ones will not stand before you; you hate all those who practice wickedness. | 5Arrogant people cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who behave wickedly. |
You will destroy those who speak lies. The LORD abhors the person of bloodshed and deceit. | 6You destroy liars; the LORD despises violent and deceitful people. |
But I, because of the abundance of your gracious love, may come into your house. In awe of you, I will worship in your holy Temple. | 7But as for me, because of your great faithfulness I will enter your house; I will bow down toward your holy temple as I worship you. |
LORD, lead me in your righteousness because of my enemies. Make your path straight before me. | 8LORD, lead me in your righteousness because of those who wait to ambush me, remove the obstacles in the way in which you are guiding me! |
But as for the wicked, they do not speak truth at all. Inside them there is only wickedness. Their throat is an open grave, on their tongue is deceitful flattery. | 9For they do not speak the truth; their stomachs are like the place of destruction, their throats like an open grave, their tongues like a steep slope leading into it. |
Declare them guilty, God! Let them fall by their own schemes. Drive them away because of their many transgressions, for they have rebelled against you. | 10Condemn them, O God! May their own schemes be their downfall! Drive them away because of their many acts of insurrection, for they have rebelled against you. |
Let all those who take refuge in you rejoice! Let them shout for joy forever, and may you protect them. Let those who love your name exult in you. | 11But may all who take shelter in you be happy! May they continually shout for joy! Shelter them so that those who are loyal to you may rejoice! |
Indeed, you will bless the righteous one, LORD, like a large shield, you will surround him with favor. | 12Certainly you reward the godly, LORD. Like a shield you protect them in your good favor. |
