LORD, in your anger, do not rebuke me, in your wrath, do not discipline me. | 1For the music director, to be accompanied by stringed instruments, according to the sheminith style; a psalm of David. LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger! Do not discipline me in your raging fury! |
Be gracious to me, LORD, because I am fading away. Heal me, because my body is distressed. | 2Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am frail! Heal me, LORD, for my bones are shaking! |
And my soul is deeply distressed. But you, LORD, how long do I wait? | 3I am absolutely terrified, and you, LORD--how long will this continue? |
Return, LORD, save my life! Deliver me, because of your gracious love. | 4Relent, LORD, rescue me! Deliver me because of your faithfulness! |
In death, there is no memory of you. Who will give you thanks where the dead are? | 5For no one remembers you in the realm of death, In Sheol who gives you thanks? |
I am weary from my groaning. Every night my couch is drenched with tears, my bed is soaked through. | 6I am exhausted as I groan; all night long I drench my bed in tears; my tears saturate the cushion beneath me. |
My eyesight has faded because of grief, it has dimmed because of all my enemies. | 7My eyes grow dim from suffering; they grow weak because of all my enemies. |
Get away from me, all of you who practice evil, for the LORD has heard the sound of my weeping. | 8Turn back from me, all you who behave wickedly, for the LORD has heard the sound of my weeping! |
The LORD has heard my plea; the LORD receives my prayer. | 9The LORD has heard my appeal for mercy; the LORD has accepted my prayer. |
As for all my enemies, they will be put to shame; they will be greatly frightened and suddenly turn away ashamed. | 10May all my enemies be humiliated and absolutely terrified! May they turn back and be suddenly humiliated! |
