LORD, my God, I seek refuge in you. Deliver me from those who persecute me! Rescue me! | 1Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the LORD, concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite. O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me: |
Otherwise, they will rip me to shreds like a lion, tearing me apart with no one to rescue me. | 2Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver. |
LORD, my God, if I have done this thing, if there is injustice on my hands, | 3O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands; |
if I have rewarded those who did me good with evil, if I have plundered my enemy without justification, | 4If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:) |
then, let my enemy pursue me, let him overtake me, and let him trample my life to the ground. Interlude Let him put my honor into the dust. | 5Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah. |
Get up, LORD, in your anger! Rise up, because of the fury of my enemies; Arouse yourself for me; you have ordained justice. | 6Arise, O LORD, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded. |
Let the assembly of the peoples gather around you, and you will sit high above them. | 7So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high. |
For the LORD will judge the peoples. Judge me according to my righteousness, LORD, and according to my integrity, Exalted One. | 8The LORD shall judge the people: judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me. |
Let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous. For you are the righteous God who discerns the inner thoughts. | 9Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins. |
God is my shield, the one who delivers the upright in heart. | 10My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart. |
God is a righteous judge, a God who is angry with sinners every day. | 11God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. |
If the ungodly one doesn't repent, God will sharpen his sword; he will string his bow and prepare it. | 12If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready. |
He prepares weapons of death for himself, he makes his arrows into fiery shafts. | 13He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors. |
But the wicked one travails with evil, he conceives malice and gives birth to lies. | 14Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood. |
He digs a pit, even excavates it; then he fell into the hole that he had made. | 15He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made. |
The trouble he planned will return on his own head, and his violence will descend on his skull. | 16His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate. |
But as for me, I will praise the LORD for his righteousness, and I will sing to the name of the LORD Most High. | 17I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high. |
